Harriet L. Rose

October 27, 2013

Harriet L. Rose, 88, of 229 Holman St., Kane, died Saturday evening, Oct. 26, 2013 at UPMC Hamot in Erie after a brief illness.
Born Jan. 6, 1925 in Jamestown, N.Y., she was the daughter of Harry R. and Helga Nelson Larson. On Aug. 23, 1947 in Rasselas, she married John W. Rose, who died in 1999.
Harriet grew up in Wilcox and graduated from Wilcox High School. After working for a year at the Kane Shirt Factory, she entered and graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, where she was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps.

John R. Milford

John R. Milford, 82, of Erie, died on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013.
He was born in Kane on May 7, 1931, the son of the late Mark E. and Theresa Gregory Milford.
John graduated from Kane High School and served in the Army from 1949-1952 during the Korean War. He worked a few years at General Electric until he became employed as an Equipment Mechanic Forman for the Long Beach Naval Shipyard in Long Beach, Calif.

Carole J. Hodgdon

Carole J. Hodgdon, 71, formerly of Field Street, Kane, died late Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26, 2013 at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Feb. 2, 1942 in Kane, she was the daughter of Arthur R. and Margaret M. Wolbert Johnson. She had been married to David E. Hodgdon, whom she married June 15, 1962 in Kane, and who preceded her in death in 2007.
Carole enjoyed reading and writing.

Wolves finish regular season 9-0 with win over Coudy

It wasn’t pretty but Kane’s win over Coudersport on Friday will look beautiful in the record books as the 2013 Wolves became only the third team in Kane football history to finish the regular season undefeated.

The Friends' Memorial Library was the place to be on Thursday. Kane Area Development Center sponsored a BAH-October After Hours event at the library and nearly half of those in attendance came in costume. Uptown Kane will be bustling on Saturday during the group's Fall Fest. Many activities are planned throughout the town, including a parade at 1 p.m.

Wolves close out regular season with road trip to Coudersport

The Kane Wolves football team tries to put the finishing touches on an undefeated regular season tonight when they travel to CARP Stadium to take on the 4-4 Coudersport Falcons.
The Falcons narrowly lost to Curwensville in their season opener, then went on to win their next three contests. Since that time, Coudersport has gone 1-3, losing to Sheffield, Smethport and Otto-Eldred.

Lady Wolves lose to Bradford in regular season finale

Kane volleyball coach Judy Kessler is looking at Thursday night’s match with Bradford kind of like the "glass is half full."
The Lady Owls finished their second consecutive undefeated regular season with a three-set win over the Lady Wolves in the Wolves Den.

Kane-tober Fall Fest to be held Saturday

Uptown Kane will be buzzing with activity on Saturday with various activities planned throughout the day.
Many Kane businesses will be having sidewalk sales, weather permitting, and offering special sales to mark the event. Several businesses will have coupons offering additional discounts, and customers using the coupons will be entered into a drawing to win a $100 gift certificate.

Shutdown has little effect on North Central

RIDGWAY – The recent 16-day federal government shutdown had little effect on the North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission as officials for the reimbursement-based organization were prepared for the duration.
