WETMORE TWP. – A jackknifed tractor-trailer disrupted traffic for more than two hours Wednesday afternoon on state Route 66 near the base of James City hill south of Kane.

Wolves beat Rovers on road, take on Tide Friday

The Kane Wolves boys’ basketball team traveled to Brockway on Tuesday night and came away with a 58-44 win over the Rovers. Senior Kevin Cleer led a balanced scoring attack as three Wolves ended up in double figures.

Kane junior wrestling program take 1st place

Members of the Kane junior wrestling program have been tearing up the mat lately, capturing titles at several area tournaments. Pictured here are some of the wrestlers along with the first place team trophy from the recent Smethport tournament. Many of the wrestlers are getting ready to compete in the end of the season sectional, regional and state tournaments.

Wetmore to consider hike in fire department aid

Wetmore Township for about two decades has provided an annual allocation of $18,000 for fire protection by the Kane Volunteer Fire Department.
That contribution may increase next year.

Lady Wolves headed for playoffs with gritty win over Brockway

It wasn’t pretty, but the Kane Lady Wolves outlasted the Brockway Lady Rovers in a slugfest on Tuesday in the Wolves’ Den. The Lady Wolves improved to 10-9 on the season with the 49-38 win. The win ensures that the Kane girls will have a .500 record by the district’s deadline to enter the postseason, Friday at 3 p.m.

Suspended police chief accepts ARD sentence

SMETHPORT – Suspended Kane Borough Police Chief Brian Hillard will be performing a year of community service under a sentence he accepted Monday in McKean County Court.
Hillard, 43, was charged last August with two counts of falsifying state documents between February 2011 and July in his role as a certified firearms instructor.
He reportedly certified that three Kane officers had completed mandatory state firearms training when, in fact, they had not.

Buyers are sought for Mt. Jewett water system

Borough Council President Chuck Paar said Monday that the borough will be placing ads to seek prospective buyers.

Wolves defeat Gators on Senior Recognition Night

The Kane Wolves boys’ basketball team honored four senior players and senior manager Alex Pearson on Monday night before tipoff and then went out and sent their fans home happy with a 42-33 win over the Port Allegany Gators.
