Olson playing pro football for Baltimore Nighthawks

Kane native Laura Olson is a successful physical therapist specializing in pediatrics at Baltimore’s Franklin Square Medical Center. While the 2002 KHS grad spends her days working with children that suffer from cerebral palsy, she spends her evenings strapping on a helmet and practicing as a lineman, or rather, linewoman, for the Baltimore Nighthawks of the Independent Women’s Football League.

School board offers retirement incentive to cut budget

In an effort to balance the next budget, the Kane School Board is offering a retirement incentive plan to eligible teachers.
The board voted 7-1 Thursday to adopt a supplemental agreement with the Kane Area Education Association (KAEA) to put forth the retirement incentive.

Thomas Kerek is appointed to Kane School Board

Thomas C. Kerek, a retired major in the U.S. Army, has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the nine-member Kane School Board.
The board voted 6-2 Thursday to name Kerek to the post vacated last month by Harry Steele.
Board members Ken Kane, John Ball, Claire Ann Depto, Susan Grolemund, Gary Ziegler and Linda A. Anderson voted in favor of Kerek.

Kane High School commencement is at 7 p.m. tonight

The Kane High School auditorium will be filled tonight for the annual commencement ceremony.
A total of 90 seniors will be receiving their high school diplomas tonight at the 7 p.m. event. Two foreign exchange students will receive certificates.

Jury finds Mt. Jewett man not guilty in rape case

SMETHPORT – A jury found a Mt. Jewett man not guilty Wednesday of all five charges linked with the alleged rape of former Mt. Jewett woman.
Paul Ray Swank, 33, of 7 Chestnut St., Mt. Jewett, had tears in his eyes after the verdict was read.

Rape case against Mt. Jewett man goes to jury

SMETHPORT – It's now up to the jury to decide the fate of a Mt. Jewett man charged with rape.
Paul Ray Swank, 33, of 7 Chestnut St., Mt. Jewett, is accusing a raping a former Mt. Jewett woman. She was 26 years old at the time of the alleged rape on Nov. 2, 2012 at a secluded area near Hutchins.

Wolves’ winter school coaches meet with curriculum committee

Tuesday night it was the coaches of the Kane winter sports season’s turn to meet with the members of the Kane Area School District’s Board of Directors’ Curriculum Committee. Three head varsity coaches, Matt Gasbarre (boys’ basketball), Dave Kiehl (girls’ basketball) and Mike Swartwood (wrestling), along with two middle school coaches, Jeff Gibbs (boys’ basketball) and Nichole Krietemeyer (volleyball), met with committee members to recap their seasons and give their input on upcoming budget concerns.

Former school chief is commencement speaker

Dr. Charles D. Amuso is more than just a former superintendent of the Kane Area School District.
He is one of Kane's biggest cheerleaders."The Kane area is unique in the North Central region of Pennsylvania," Amuso said. "The parents and community are very involved and supportive of the students and the Kane Area School District.

Bloodmobile collected 57 units of blood
