Here's an easy way to help raise as much as $6,000 for three organizations at Kane High School.
Just come to the school next Saturday, Oct. 19 any time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and test drive a Ford vehicle from Zook Motors of Kane.
This week was an exciting week for the preschoolers at Kane Day School.Â
Since it was Fire Safety week,Â the 4-year-olds morning class'Â day started with a surprise visitor.Â This visitor was firefighter Rhonda Holt.Â She surprised her niece, Annaliese, by coming to read to her class.Â
BENEZETTE â€“ During his visit to Elk County on Thursday, Governor Tom Corbett emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships within the state's tourism industry, specifically relating to state parks, visitors centers and more.
Victoria Ann Parrish, Â 57, of Â 11 Maple Ln., Mt. Jewett, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2013 at her residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Cummings Funeral Home.
Virginia Turay, 87, of 130 Greeves St., died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born March 31, 1926, in Ludlow, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Marchark Turay.
Virginia lived in Ludlow before moving to Kane in 1993. She was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church and belonged to the former Altar Rosary Society. She was employed at Stackpole Carbon prior to her retirement.
Survivors include a sister, Pauline Kaszyca of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; and several nieces and nephews.
The Kane Area School Board held an executive session prior to Thursdayâ€™s regular monthly meeting to discuss three grievances filed by the Kane Area Education Association on behalf of a few of their members. Just prior to the end of the meeting, all three grievances were denied unanimously by the six board members in attendance.
BENEZETTE â€“ In an effort to promote tourism, Governor Tom Corbett visited the Elk Country Visitor Center on Thursday afternoon to highlight the Pennsylvania Wilds as a top destination for travelers as well as to mark the 100 years since elk were reintroduced into the region.
The Kane Wolves will take on a new opponent tonight when they host St. Josephâ€™s Academy. St. Joeâ€™s is located in Boalsburg, just outside of State College and while the school was opened a few years ago, this is the first season for the football team.
The Kane boysâ€™ soccer team continues to struggle to get in the win column but coaches Ernie Chamberlain and Robert Mosier can still see bright spots during games.
ST. MARYS â€“ Although they put up a great fight for most of the match, the Lady Wolves volleyball team fell to the ECC Crusaders in St. Marys in three, 25-16, 25-12, 25-22.
