EAST SMETHPORT â Emily Housler of Lantz Corners is the McKean County Fair Queen for 2013-14.
She was chosen Saturday night at the Queen Coronation Contest at the Mini Stage at the county fairgrounds in East Smethport.
Competitors in the First Annual Kornhole 5K Run/ 2 Mile Walk/ Beer Belly Dash are pictured on Saturday after the races. Mary Dinger was the overall winner of the 5K, crossing the finish line in a time of 22:54. The race was in memory of Kevin Lindquist and all proceeds benefitted Elks charities.
ERIE â A federal judge ruled Friday against two "sanction" motions filed on behalf of Dr. Maryann Anderson in her 2007 "whistle-blower" lawsuit.
One motion calls for a sanction against a defense attorney in the case. Another deals with the alleged concealment of evidence.

The Kane school day will be longer for students when classes resume Aug. 27.
The Kane School Board voted 6-3 Thursday to approve an "administrative plan" to lengthen the school day to provide more time for remedial work and "enrichment" programs.
Many residents of the Kane Area School District that were in attendance at Thursdayâs meeting were not satisfied with the actions taken by the school board. The two major issues concerning the bulk of the audience were the extension of the school day and the possible disciplinary action against two school district employees.

The Kane Country Club Ladies Open was held Tuesday, Aug. 13 with 68 women from 11 different clubs participating. Despite the early rain, the day ended with sunshine and a nice dinner and door prizes.
