SMETHPORT – Former Kane resident Dustin Laurie is seeking the Republican nomination for McKean County treasurer in the May 21 primary.
Loretta E. Snow, 89, formerly of 315 Kearney St., Kane, died Wednesday morning, April 3, 2013 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where she resided for the past 17 months.
Born May 18, 1923 in Kane, she was the daughter of William A. and Mary E. Shaffer Johnson. On June 29, 1946 in Ridgway, she married Robert D. Snow, who died in 1974.
Mrs. Snow was a secretary at Kane Screens before her marriage, then again after her husband passed away, retiring in 1988.
April 2nd
Theodore Bedner, 93, of 130 Greeves St., passed away Saturday morning, March 30, 2013, at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Nov. 23, 1919, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Rodensky) Bedner.
Prior to his retirement in 1988 he had been employed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Brenden Bedner and Leon (Betty) Bedner of Painted Post, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Keely Bedner and Logan Bedner.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, John Bedner.
JOHNSONBURG – Ken Spaich of Hazel Hurst has been selected as the "Logger-of-the-Year" by the Allegheny Hardwood Utilization Group (AHUG).
MT. JEWETT – A citizens group led by Frank Auriemmo is planning to hold a benefit Flea Market in July in Mt. Jewett.
JOHNSONBURG – The preliminary hearing for a Johnsonburg man charged with the murder of a Ridgway teen, originally scheduled for this morning, has been postponed.
Nicholas Martin, 22, of 416 First Ave. in Johnsonburg was arrested last Tuesday and charged with the death of 18-year-old Alyssa Forsyth of Ridgway.
April 1st
A second federal lawsuit filed by Kane School Superintendent Dr. Maryann Anderson has been dismissed.
This legal action, filed in 2011, claims Erie attorney Richard Perhacs took part in retaliatory activities against Anderson for her "whistle-blower" federal lawsuit against three of her former associates in the Millcreek Township School District.

I have people coming up to me constantly and saying, you must have a lot of patience to do nature photography. I always give them a little chuckle when I’m asked this. I want to tell them yes I do, but I also want to tell them the different circumstances I get myself into on the way to that good nature shot. I say, and firmly believe, that a good nature photographer definitely has to be at the right place at the right time.
Parents and their small children form a long line Saturday to greet the Easter Bunny at the annual Easter Egg Hunt in Kane. The Easter Bunny is seated on a sidewalk at the former Chestnut Street Elementary School.Â

The Kane High School team is in its inaugural season and has 24 team members on the squad.
