The health of Kane Community Hospital (KCH) is continuing to improve.
Gary Rhodes, chief executive officer (CEO) at the hospital, highlighted the KCH accomplishments in his annual report to the Kane community. He outlined the report Thursday in a slideshow âpowerpointâ presentation at CJ Spirits near Zook Motors.
More than 30 attended the forum, which is one of the âBusiness After Hoursâ programs sponsored by the Kane Area Development Center and Chamber of Commerce.
SMETHPORT â A Kane man who who wielded large knives in an alleged "suicide-by-cop" attempt in May entered a "no contest" plea Thursday in McKean County Court.
Larry Walker II, 42, of 231 Janeway St., Kane, is scheduled for sentencing Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. before county court President Judge John Pavlock.
Walker remains in the McKean County Jail in Smethport in lieu of $750,000 cash bail.Â
Loggers and sawmill workers of all ages from throughout the region are invited to attend a Woodman's Reunion taking place Saturday evening at the Sacred Heart Social Center in St. Marys.

Under an agreement announced Wednesday, Sun Air Express will be adding roundtrip flights to Pittsburgh International Airport âbefore the end of the yearâ from the Bradford Regional Airport. The commuter airline operates a fleet of Piper Navajo aircraft fitted with nine passenger seats.
The Johnsonburg Ramettes won a match between two struggling teams on Tuesday night in the Wolvesâ Den. Coach Bill Shueyâs Ramettes won their third match of the season 3-1, (25-18, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-15) to spoil Kaneâs Senior Recognition.
Members of the Concerned Citizens of Kane contend that the borough could save money by foregoing around-the-clock police patrols.
But other residents believe Kane still needs police patrols on a 24/7 basis.
David Walker of 28 Pine Ave. is one of those Kane residents who supports continued 24/7 police patrols.
Speaking at a Kane Borough Council meeting last week, Walker claims it would âan injustice to the citizens of Kaneâ to leave some portions of the day without a police officer on patrol.
SMETHPORT â Troy Tanner of Smethport has been named a Junior Fireman by the Smethport Volunteer Fire Department.
Troy is an eighth grade student with a learning disability. He is enrolled in the Pennsylvania Virtual Cyber Charter School.
The school teaches him to use his strengths to make up for his weaknesses.Â
A tactile learner, Troy enjoys being outdoors and has always dreamed of becoming a firefighter. Through rigorous training and studying with his parents and teachers, he graduated among the top three students from the Tri-County Fire School.
William A. Rose, 63, of East Granby, Conn., beloved husband of Julia Ann Hassler, died in the early morning on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 at his home after a short battle with cancer.
Born Sept. 16, 1951 in Kane, he was the son of the late William S. and Mildred (Henry) Rose.
