Theodore "Fred" Holmes, 67, of 206 Park Ave.,Â died suddenly on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born May 24, 1947 in Kane, he was a son of the late Richard W. and Alma Berggren Holmes. On May 17, 1969, in Kane, he married Mary Kay Cappello who survives.
Mr. Holmes was the longtime owner and operator of the Family Drive-In Theater. He was a member of the Kane Fish & Game Club
Thirteen talented dancers from the area will be making the trip to Disney World Resorts in Orlando, Fla. later this week to perform at the famed entertainment complex.
The dancers, 12 girls and one boy, all take classes at Studio K Dance Studio in Kane. Studio owner and instructor Kate Undercoffer and her group have been practicing for this opportunity since October 2013 and are ready to â€śwowâ€ť the Magic Kingdom.
Margaret E. "Peg" Cunningham, 83, of 3165 Rte. 219, Kane, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Born Feb. 8, 1931, in Pine Run, she was a daughter ofÂ the late Claude and Hazel Transue Housler. On April 29, 1988, she married Thomas E. Cunningham who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Cunningham had worked at Stackpole for 25 years. She later was a cook at Kane Community Hospital from which she retired. She was a charter member of the Hamlin Township Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary.
As a pastime she was an avid bingo player, golfer, and loved to fish.
Kane Borough Councilman Dennis Drost still is confident that repairs can be made this summer at the tennis courts and basketball court at Evergreen Park.
"We can get it done," Drost said Friday.
2 jailed after suspected 'bath salts' found in car
Kane Police found a cache of suspected "bath salts" in a vehicle searched late Sunday afternoon in the borough.
Two arrests have been made in connection with the discovery.
The defendants are Scott Alan Yanak, 34, of Moon Township near Pittsburgh and Lori Lee Grotzinger, 30, of 318 Ash St., St. Marys.
SMETHPORT â€“ A Mt. Jewett couple jailed on child-starving charges have withdrawn their post-sentencing motions that seek a reduction in the restitution they owe.
Mark and Susan Hooper of 21 Anderson St., Mt. Jewett, were sentenced to county jail April 8 after pleading â€śno contestâ€ť to charges filed last year by State Police Trooper Mary Gausman.
Dr. Maryann Anderson plans to retire Jan. 6 as the superintendent of the Kane Area School District.
The surprise public announcement came Thursday at a meeting of the school board in the middle school auditorium.
The Kane School Board voted 5-2 Thursday to approve a final 2014-15 budget that calls for a property tax increase, but no teacher furloughs.
According to School District Business Manager Steve Perry, the "average" residential property owner will see a net tax increase of $8. Tax bills are payable in August.
SMETHPORT â€“ A Bradford doctor pleaded guilty Thursday to charges linked with the inappropriate touching of two young married women in his medical office.
Dr. Abaz Sosic, 51, who practices in the field of obstetrics and gynecology and has delivered many Kane area babies, entered the pleas when he appeared before McKean County President Judge John Pavlock.
Kane Elks Lodge #329 will hold their annual Flag Day Ceremony tomorrow at the Evergreen Park gazebo across from the lodge on Chestnut Street. The 2 p.m. ceremony will be held inside the lodge in the event of rain.
Flag Day holds special significance to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, as each lodge holds an observance of the day that commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on Jan. 14, 1777 by the Second Continental Congress.
