A hefty drop in total Kane property valuation is blamed for a drastic cut in the borough's reserve fund.
The 2013 budget included $25,000 in the capital reserve fund to pay for unexpected expenses during the year.

Protocol to be set for filling school board vacancy

The filling a sudden vacancy on the Kane School Board possibly could swing power to the four new "anti-establishment" members.
In a letter dated Monday and read Thursday at a school board meeting, Mark Paup announced that he is resigning as one of the nine board members. He did not attend the meeting at the Kane Middle School auditorium.

Wolves grapplers tame Bobcats 46-30

Kane wrestling fans enjoyed a long night on Thursday in the Wolves’ Den. Eleven varsity matches followed 10 middle school matches, along with eight middle school exhibition matches. The varsity Wolves trailed 18-9 at one point in the match with Clarion, but the home team took seven of the final nine matches to pull away with the 46-30 win.

State Rep. Causer's district to include Kane area

State Rep. Marty Causer (R-Turtlepoint) will be seeking re-election this year for a newly-defined legislative district that includes the Kane area.
The new district, which has been re-drawn following the 2010 census, includes all of McKean County, all of Cameron County and most of Potter County.

By 4-3 vote, Kane is re-elected council president

By a 4-3 vote, councilman Howard Kane has been re-elected as president of the Kane Borough Council.
He was re-elected Monday at council's reorganization meeting at the borough building. The regular monthly meeting followed.

Leadership shuffle in Wetmore Township

WETMORE TWP. – There was a shuffle in leadership at Monday evening’s Wetmore Township reorganizational meeting. Prior to the regular monthly meeting, supervisors Steve Dyne, Bill Ryding and Elaine Bodistow held the annual required reorganizational meeting.

Highland supervisors to seek new roadmaster

JAMES CITY – The Highland Board of Supervisors is seeking applications for roadmaster.
Supervisor Jim Wolfe of Russell City announced Monday that Township Roadmaster Charlie Vaughn would be stepping down April 1.

Eva F. Stanley, 64, of Marienville, died Saturday evening, January 4, 2014, at her home. She was born in Barton, NY on February 19, 1949, the daughter of Elmer and Elinor Bell Gorton.
On September 20, 1996 she married Von Stanley in Kane.

Birds of prey have always been a fascination of mine. Just to drive down the road and get a glimpse of a red-tail hawk sitting on a branch, is a rush for me. Why do I get excited about a hawk sitting on a branch you might wonder. It’s because the hawk just isn’t sitting there doing nothing he, or she, is actually hunting. For a hawk, or most birds of prey, making a kill almost daily is a must for their survival.
