Kane Borough Council faces several key issues

The Kane Borough Council will be facing several key issues when it meets Monday at 4 p.m. at the borough building.
The monthly meeting-- reset from Sept. 9-- is open to the public.

Doris Lee Martin

September 21, 2013

Doris Lee Martin, 80, of 616 N. Fraley St., passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at her home.
Born Aug. 10, 1933, she was a daughter of Carl B. Hazzard and Goldie G. Strait. On Aug. 19, 1950, she married John C. Martin who preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 2007.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Martin worked at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Surviving are four children, Robert Martin of Waymart, Rebecca Ehrlinger of Greencastle, Randy Martin of Mt. Jewett and Roberta Fitch of Commerce City, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

LeRoy J. Neubert

LeRoy J. Neubert, 70, of 86 Worral St., Wilcox, died on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Dec. 15, 1942 in Benzinger, son of the late LeRoy E. and Anne Danko Neubert.
He married Doris Stewart on May 3, 1973 in St. Callistus Church in Kane, who survives.
Leroy resided in Wilcox all his life. He was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School in 1960.

88 vendors are set for Kinzua Bridge 'Fall Festival'

Susan Grolemund seeks seat on Kane School Board

Susan Grolemund, a retired Kane teacher, has announced her intention to run as a write-in candidate for a seat on the nine-member Kane School Board.
She becomes the seventh candidate seeking four seats on the board in the Nov. 5 election.

Lady Wolves outlast Ramettes in 5-set marathon

The Kane Lady Wolves hosted the Johnsonburg Ramettes in volleyball action on Thursday night and survived a marathon, five-set match. The Lady Wolves took game one by a score of 25-22, lost the second by a score of 25-15, won the third 30-28, lost the fourth set 25-19, and won the fifth 17-15.

Wolves drop game to Gators

The Kane boys’ soccer team finished off a tough week on Thursday afternoon with a 7-2 loss to the Port Allegany Gators. After losing 3-2 to Ridgway on Monday in double overtime and losing to St. Marys on Tuesday, the Wolves closed out their week on Thursday afternoon.

Varsity cross country team remains undefeated

While the middle school boys’ team fell to DuBois Tuesday at home 21-39, the varsity boys team advanced to 5-0 on the season, managing a slim 27-28 victory.

Driver in Route 66 crash died of natural causes

JAMES CITY -- The driver of a vehicle that crashed Wednesday on Route 66 near James City died of natural causes.
Elk County Coroner Michelle Muccio of St. Marys said the male driver suffered an "apparent heart attack" and died "a natural death."
