Many people in this area of McKean County are familiar with the Kinzua Valley. This column refers to my Kinzua Valley only, and you will soon learn what I mean by â€śmy.â€ť To some folks, the Kinzua Valley is the valley that runs under the Kinzua Bridge and down towards Kushequa. To others it is the valley that runs from Westline down to the Red Bridge area. These are certainly both the Kinzua Valley, but not mine, as I will try to explain.
Property owners in the Kane Area School District will see an increase in their tax bills to be paid in August.
Edward D. "Eddie Pete" Peterson, 77, of 908 Welsh St., Kane, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, June 12, 2013 in the E.R. of the Kane Community Hospital after being stricken at home.
Born Feb. 3, 1936 in Kane, he was the son of Edward S. and Cora P. Detwiler Peterson.Â On April 25, 1969 in Johnsonburg, he married Ann J. Mays, who survives.
Mr. Peterson was an operator for Pennsylvania American Water Co. for over 25 years, and was a union steward for the company.
JAMES CITY â€“ Newly-appointed Supervisor Jim Wolfe of Russell City is the new chairman of the Highland Township Board of Supervisors.

Carmela Ann "Melly"Â Napolitan, 83, of Bradford, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the BRMC Pavilion in Bradford.
Born May 25, 1930, in Hazel Hurst,Â she was a daughter of the late Michael and Antoinette Santaniello Napolitan.
Ms. Napolitan was a graduate of Mansfield University and began her teaching career in Savona, N.Y., in 1952. Later she served as an elementary teacher for 42 years in the Bradford Area School District, retiring in 1995.
Carmela was a member of the Retired Teachers' Association and the St. Joseph's Rosary Society.
RIDGWAY â€“ A letter drafted by Elk County Solicitor Thomas Wagner indicates Charlie VaughnÂ should no longer serve as a supervisor for Highland Township.
LANTZ CORNERS â€“ If all goes according to plans, it won't be long before construction begins on the long-awaited Lantz Corners sewage collection project.
Carmela A. Napolitan, 83, of 1154 East Main St., Bradford, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Pavilion in Bradford.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett.
Due to liability issues, the skate/bike ramps at Glenwood Park in Kane remain closed.
