Marjorie (Marge) Zampogna

October 4, 2013

Marjorie (Marge) Zampogna, 90, of 314 Kearney St., died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013 at her residence.
Born Feb. 2, 1923 (Groundhog Day) in Johnsonburg, she was the daughter of the late John Edward Bressler and Sarah Elizabeth Barner. On April 12, 1945, she married Fritz Zampogna, who died in 2012.

Helen Marie Rietter Lynde

Helen Marie Rietter Lynde, 67, of Erie and formerly of Kane, died Oct. 2, 2013 and went to join her parents, son and brother.
Helen was born in Kane on Sept. 8, 1946 daughter of the late Francis and Edith Carlson Rietter.
She graduated from Kane Area High School in 1964, where she sang in the Kane Choralliers and also was a cheerleader.
Helen worked at the Hamlin Bank in Kane and married Tom Lynde who was in the U.S. Coast Guard in July 1967. In 1968 they moved to Norfolk, Va., where Helen worked at Virginia National Bank until 1970 when they moved to Erie. 

Government shutdown spurs campground evictions

The federal government shutdown has prompted the eviction of campers in the Allegheny National Forest (ANF).
Allegheny Site Management (ASM), a private company from Bradford, has been directed by the U.S. Forest Service to "evict everyone" and "close all gates" to eight campgrounds it manages in the ANF.

Brenda Emer-- our 'poster child' for war on cancer

A close friend said it best.
Going into a hospital with Brenda Emer was like being with a "rock star."
"Everyone knew her," Amy Geer said. "And everyone loved her."
Geer is one of many friends who is paying tribute to Emer, a James City resident who died late Tuesday afternoon following a courageous and miraculous 16-year battle with breast cancer.

10th Pink Power Day slated Friday in Kane

The 10th annual Pink Power Day will be observed Friday in Kane.
The special day is held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Brenda L. Emer, 44, of 142 New Jersey Ave. (P.O. Box 212) in James City, died Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 1, 2013 at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh after a series of courageous battles with cancer over 16 years.
Born Nov. 15, 1968 in Kane, she was the daughter of Wallace R. and Jo Ann Swanson Dyne. On Aug. 3, 1991 in Kane, she married Cy E. Emer, who survives.
Brenda was employed by the Kane Area School District and Jim Airgood Busing. She was an active member of Tabor Ev. Lutheran Church in Kane, where served in the Altar Guild and played in the handbell choir.

Wetmore Twp. asked to help fund new rescue truck

The Kane Volunteer Fire Department needs all the financial help it can muster as it prepares to order a new rescue truck.
Kane Fire Chief Tim Holt went Tuesday before the Wetmore Township Board of Supervisors to seek township funds for the vehicle.
