KAHS athletes still working over summer

Even though there are no games scheduled for more than a month and official practices don’t begin until Aug. 12, a number of Kane High School athletes have been working out this summer to get a jump start on the season.

Hamlin supervisors reinstate 2-man road crew

HAZEL HURST – The Hamlin Township road crew remains on duty.
A week after voting to furlough the two-man crew, the Hamlin Township Board of Supervisors acted at a special meeting Monday to reinstate workers Rick Keesler and Terry Morgan.

4th Annual Operation Back to School Sneakers Socks and Backpacks Drive

Donations of new sneakers, socks and backpacks may be dropped off at the Kane Area Community Center Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. 

Student pick-up site to change at school complex

JOHNSONBURG – With the cause of Friday's marathon fire at Domtar paper mill in Johnsonburg still unknown, investigators will have even more hurdles to contend with as the tunnel where the fire reportedly originated is still deemed unsafe.

Workers install a new roof at the Tabor Lutheran Church on Greeves Street in Kane. Hoffman Roofing of Ridgway is the contractor for the project.

Fire at Domtar paper mill

JOHNSONBURG – A large fire broke out early Friday afternoon in a tunnel beneath the chip yard at Domtar paper mill in Johnsonburg. As of press time Friday night, the fire was still burning.
According to Craig Timm, a media relations representative for Domtar, the fire broke out in the wood chip conveyor system.
