Kane Area High School students will all attend an anti-bullying program this week sponsored by the National Guard.
Between Tuesday and Friday this week, students will attend the National Guard program, “H.E.A.R.- Helping Everyone Achieve Respect, Building Respect and Ending Bullying and Cruelty in Your School.”

Smelko finishes fifth overall in Hall of Fame Marathon

Kane High School Physical Education teacher Adam Smelko finished fifth overall in Sunday’s Pro Football Hall of Fame Marathon in Canton, Ohio. Smelko crossed the finish line in 2:48.46 which is more than 10 minutes better than his previous best for a marathon.

Mary Ann Bennett, 80, of 2 Greeves St., Kane, formerly of DeYoung, died unexpectedly Monday evening, April 28, 2014 at the Kane Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 17, 1933 in Muzette, Forest County, she was the daughter of Lias and Gertrude Finlaw Irwin. She had been married to Samuel E. "Bud" Maze, who died in 1960. On July 31, 1965 in Kane, she married William Bennett, who survives.
Mary Ann had worked at Stackpole in Kane for over 26 years.

Ethel Mae Chappo

Ethel Mae Chappo, 86, of Kane, died Monday, April 28, 2014.
She was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Carnegie, a daughter of Trevor George Davis and Gertrude Blanche Stevens.
Mrs. Chappo worked in the laundry service at the Washington Hospital for 18 years. She loved her dogs and enjoyed ceramics, word search books, and playing cards. She looked forward to shopping and eating meals out with her family. 
Mrs. Chappo was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kane and a former member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington.
Deceased is her first husband, Roy Winters.
