July 5, 2013

Francis H. Grolemund, Sr., 87, of Erie, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home.
He was born in Oil City, PA on December 16, 1925, a son of the late Francis A. and Eva M. (Fitzpatrick) Grolemund.

Two Mile Creek Ranch, a barrel of fun

Kane residents Steve and Kerri Dyne purchased Two Mile Creek Ranch just outside of Sheffield in January 2012. The horse ranch is just under 100 acres and the couple has put in a lot of time and energy into getting the ranch up and running.

Highland Township Old Fashioned Festival to be Held Saturday and Sunday

Area residents can take a short drive and take advantage of some fine entertainment this weekend in James City. The Highland Township Recreational Association will hold their annual festival this weekend.
A variety of music, food and vendors will be available on both Saturday and Sunday, as well as drawings for adults and games, including a bouncy house, for children. Booths will be scattered throughout the area by the ballfield.

Mt. Jewett Summer Youth Program wrapped up

Mt. Jewett’s annual summer youth program recently came to a close. The three-week program, under the direction of Nichole Krietemeyer, is divided into two daily sessions, one in the mornings for students from K-6 grade and evenings for teens.

Merle D. Peters

June 28, 2013

Merle D. Peters, 84, of 431 Smithfield, Kane, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at his residence.
Born Aug. 11, 1928, in Sergeant, he was a son of the late Ollie and Hattie McDonald Peters. On Sept. 12, 1947, in Johnsonburg, he married Norma Akers who preceded him in death.
Mr. Peters worked as a trackman for Conrail for many years. He served in the National Guard during World War II.

Robert A. Larson

Robert A. Larson, 92, of 119 Poplar St., Kane, died Friday morning, June 28, 2013 at The Lutheran Home at Kane, where he recently resided.
Born May 16, 1921 in Kane, he was the son of Harry C. and Anna C. Benson Larson. On July 12, 1952 in Kane, he married Helen E. Withington, who survives.
A 1939 graduate of Kane Area High School, Mr. Larson served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946, serving in the Pacific Theatre and was stationed at Iwo Jima. He was an instructor of range finding units in Camp Stewart, Ga., and was discharged as a Tech Sergeant.
