Fishing derbies to be held at Wildcat Park this weekend

LUDLOW – Ludlow’s beautiful Wildcat Park will host two fishing derbies this weekend. The first, to be held on Saturday, is a private event sponsored by the Kinzua Fish and Wildlife Association. The second, which is open to the public, will be held on Sunday and is being organized by the Ludlow Community Association, who runs the park.

Crusaders take twinbill from Wolves

The Elk County Catholic Crusaders took the trip to Kane’s Pat Santilli Field on Wednesday to makeup a couple games that were postponed earlier in the season. The visitors used complete games from their starting pitchers and a grand slam in each of the games to win big over the Wolves in Kane’s finals games of the season.

Communications key for school board candidates

Cardinals spoil Wolves’ Senior Recognition game

The DuBois Central Catholic broke open a close game with an 11-run sixth inning to spoil Senior Recognition for the Kane Wolves’ baseball team. The Wolves, led by seniors Nate Allen, Tyler Burdick, Tyler Ennis, Loren Kumher, Andrew O’Rourke and Dan Park trailed by only two, 5-3, when the visitors exploded for their big inning. The Cardinals ended up winning the game by a score of 16-3 after six innings at Pat Santilli Field on a cold, misty Tuesday afternoon.

Pickup truck hits Mt. Jewett sign

A pickup truck, westbound on Route 6 near Campbelltown Road, left the north side of the highway and struck and destroyed this sign at the Mt. Jewett Health Center building on Monday.

Hoag no-hits Lady Elkers in Kane Senior Recognition game

Kyla Hoag was honored prior to Monday’s game with Ridgway at Szymanski Field in Kane. The Lady Wolves’ pitcher, along with her five senior teammates, were playing in the final regular home game.

Recycling returns to Kane on limited basis

Trash recycling is returning to Kane on a limited basis for now on private property.
A collection site for cardboard now is located at the Bednar Metals property on Commons Alley.

Lady Wolves lose to Smethport

A minute after the last pitch, a storm blew into Smethport bringing with it hail, wind, and rain as the Hubbers and Kane Wolves scattered to find shelter. Although the Wolves had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, they couldn’t score as Smethport got the win 11-4.

Brian L. Horton, 44, of Park Avenue Ext., Kane, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, May 11, 2013 at his residence.
Born October 12, 1968 in Kane, he was the son of Phyllis A. Horton.
Brian had worked at Kane Hardwood.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Phyllis and Ronald Fitch of Kane; and two brothers, James M. Horton of Kane and Mark R. Horton of Corry.
Services will be held privately at the family's convenience.  Memorial contributions may be made to a church or charity of the donor's choice.
