The Kane Competition Cheerleading team attended the Champion Cheer Central March Madness Competition at McDowell High School in Erie on Saturday and came home Grand Champions among all 40 plus teams in attendance.Â They alsoÂ placed first in the non-tumble Varsity Division as well as first in the Small Varsity Division with their two different routines.Â The Best Stunts award also went to Kane.
SHARON â€“ Three Kane wrestlers advanced to this morningâ€™s semifinals of the Northwest Regional Tournament at Sharon High School. The top four finishers at last weekendâ€™s District 9 tournament advanced to compete at Sharon along with the top six finishers from District 10. Kaneâ€™s Austin Woolcock (113 pounds), Cody Blankenship (120 pounds) and Evan DeLong (170 pounds) won their quarterfinal match-ups to move into the semifinal round.
RIDGWAY â€“ Of all the intricate pieces of artwork throughout the 15th annual Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous, one particular piece sitting on Court Street has stood out to many passersby throughout the week.
The carving masterpiece, created by Mark Bosworth of Massachusetts, features a young girl with angel's wings embracing the neck of a horse. It is a memoriam piece paying tribute the late Amanda Putney of Royalston, Mass., who died in a December 2012 car crash.

CLARION â€“ Clarion-Limestoneâ€™s size and experience was just too much for the Kane girlsâ€™ basketball team to handle as the Lady Lions defeated the Lady Wolves 53-32 in the D9 AA semifinals on Thursday night at Clarion University.
These three Kane indoor track and field athletes each placed at last Saturday's Tri-State Track Coaches Association Championship meet.
Bettina Cherry is Miss Kane High for 2014.
Members of the Kane High School Junior Class selected Cherry for the honor Thursday during a school assembly in the school auditorium.
"It was surprising," Cherry said after she was crowned on stage by Sierra Lister, a senior who won the title of Miss Kane High last year.
Applications for a state-sponsored program that provides school tax relief for property-owners in the Kane Area School District should be filed no later than today.
Most property-owners already are enrolled in the program that provides Homestead and Farmstead Exclusions. The state adopted the program in 2006.
RIDGWAY â€“ Rob Peterson of Louisville, Ky. is one of the many artists in town for this week's Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous.
Having worked in construction since 1974, Peterson developed an eye for design and form, according to his website, robpetersoncarving.com. Paying attention to intricate details has paid off in dividends for Peterson as his talents for wood carving have grown with time.
RIDGWAY â€“ As a top female speed artist, chainsaw carver Dawna Ceriani of Brockport is quick to the saw as she is renowned for producing detailed and quality carvings in under 45 minutes.
Last year Ceriani brought in $7,000 in three days for her auction pieces during Block Bash in French Lick, Ind. The event was hosted by the Saw Dogs, a team of the world's top chainsaw carvers who are the feature of a behind the scenes television series. The previous year she placed third in the auction. In addition she also created a masterpiece carving.
