Wolves look to avenge one-point loss to ECC

The Kane Wolves are looking to avenge a late season 13-12 loss to Elk County Catholic when they take on the Crusaders Saturday night in the first round of the District 9 Class A playoffs. The Wolves enter the postseason with a 6-3 record and are the sixth seed while the third-seeded Crusaders come into the playoffs sporting a 7-2 record.

Fire-damaged building on Chase Street is finally razed

Every day for the past nine years, Sue Meyers has reluctantly looked out windows on the south side of her well-maintained home at 320 Chase St. in Kane.
What she has seen isn't a pretty sight.
It's a closeup view of Kane’s worst eyesore—a fire-damaged, dilapidated, crumbling building that once housed apartments and a meeting space for the local Knights of Columbus organization.
Meyers was able to smile a little Wednesday as she looked outside. Work finally has begun to demolish the building, which Fire Chief Tim Holt has labeled a “hazard.”

Public invited to attend Sunday’s tribute to veterans

Kane’s First United Methodist Church will hold its annual Tribute to Veterans on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. This year’s tribute, which is directed by Coleen Lundeen, is entitled, “Our Heroes and the Pride of America.”
The event will honor all veterans, families of those currently serving in the armed forces and the families of “fallen heroes.” A special emphasis this year will be on the veterans of the Korean Conflict, also known as the “Forgotten War.”

Flickerwood Wine Cellars plans to sell beer, liquor

For the past 15 years, Flickerwood Wine Cellars in Wetmore Township has produced and sold its own wine as well as sandwiches and snacks.
The business now is planning to serve beer and liquor-- and dinners-- under a state Restaurant Liquor License.
Following a public hearing Tuesday, Wetmore Township Supervisors Bill Ryding, Steve Dyne and Elaine Bodistow adopted a resolution to support the transfer of a state-issued Restaurant Liquor License to Flickerwood Wine Cellars.

Kane voters support Wolf, Thompson in election

Kane borough voters backed Democrat Tom Wolf for governor and Republican Congressman Glen "GT" Thompson in Tuesday's general election.
According to complete, but unofficial totals, Kane voters backed Wolf by a 390-338 margin over incumbent Republican Gov. Tom Corbett.
Kane voters backed Thompson of Howard Township in Centre County over challenger Kerith Strano Taylor, a Brookville Democrat, by a margin of 374-268.

Tom Corbett, NBC projected, Pennsylvania Democratic businessman Tom Wolf has unseated the state’s Republican governor. 65-year-old Wolf, poured his personal fortune into the race and hammered the governor over declining education spending. Corbett, also 65 and a blunt former prosecutor, trailed Wolf badly in most pre-election polls.

LIFT is seeking aid for portable ramps for homes

Kane area residents have a source for portable home ramps to serve disabled family members on a temporary basis.
The Life and Independence for Today (LIFT) agency loans its portable ramps to temporarily serve persons who are confined to wheelchairs or have mobility issues due to recent surgery or accidents.
LIFT, based in St. Marys, currently is conducting a “Ramp Drive” to raise donations to purchase additional ramps to serve residents in a six-county area. The cost of the ramps is between $300 and $700, according to a LIFT spokesman.

Kane firemen extinguish smoky brush fire

The Kane Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call at 3 p.m. Monday for a brush fire along Route 6 in Wetmore Township east of Kane.
A passing motorist reported the fire, according to Kane Fire Chief Tim Holt.

Kane resident is facing Megan’s Law violation

A Kane resident remains in the McKean County Jail after his arrest for an alleged Megan’s Law violation.
Travis James Kelly, 29, of 312 Greeves St., Apt. 2, Kane, is accused of failing to meet his lifetime obligation to register with the State Police every three months.
State Police Trooper Andy Dalton placed the felony charge against Kelly.
