Viola M. Swedenhjelm, 73, of 33 Tionesta Ave., Kane, died Wednesday afternoon, May 8, 2013, in the Kane Community Hospital. Arrangements, under the care of Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc., are incomplete and will be announced.

Wetmore Twp. supervisors OK bins for recycling

Recycling bins are returning to Wetmore Township.
Supervisors Steve Dyne, Bill Ryding and Elaine Bodistow agreed Tuesday to permit Casella Waste Management to place four "zero-sort" recycling bins at the rear of the township building on Spring Street in East Kane.

Kane boys track team wins meet over ECC, Johnsonburg

The Kane boys’ track and field team hosted Johnsonburg and Elk County Catholic on Tuesday afternoon on a cloudy, warm day. The Wolves finished on top, finishing the day with 101 points. Johnsonburg ended up with 46 points, while ECC finished with 42.

Kane beats Sheffield 19-3 in three innings

The Kane Lady Wolves ended a two-game slide on Monday in a big way, defeating the Sheffield Lady Wolverines by a score of 19-3 in three innings. The Lady Wolves had a bad taste in their mouths after two lopsided losses to Elk County Catholic and Curwensville last week.

Mary Rose Maletto, age 96, 203 East Ave., Johnsonburg, died Sunday evening, May 5, 2013, at The Lutheran Home at Kane.
She was born March 26, 1916, in Johnsonburg, daughter of the late Pasquale Nocito and Mariannina Perrone Nocito Condina.
On June 17, 1939, in Holy Rosary Church, she married Alfred J. Maletto Jr. who preceded her in death on June 7, 2010.

Lady Wolves win Altoona West Central Coaches Track and Field Invitational

ALTOONA – The Kane Lady Wolves Track team came through with some exceptional performances on the way to winning the team title of the Altoona West Central Coaches Track and Field Invitational on Friday. The Lady Wolves finished at the top of 43 AA teams from throughout the state with 73 points. The rest of the top five were Forest Hills (71), Tyrone (60), Elk County Catholic (52) and Johnsonburg (48).

ECVC adds full-service large animal division, emergency services

The Elk County Veterinary Clinic (ECVC) is now offering a full-service large animal division along with emergency services after bringing Dr. Megan Cassels-Conway on board just over two weeks ago.

Kenneth O'Neil Hunt

Kenneth O'Neil Hunt, 80, of Route 321 N, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his residence.
Born June 11, 1932, in Kane, he was a son of the late Edgar and Violet Ohlson Hunt.
Mr. Hunt was a career serviceman, serving in the U.S. Army where he did tours of duty in both Korea and Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Stackpole for several years. He had been a member of the Kane VFW #1132.

Port ends Wolves 2-game streak

First-year Kane coach Josh Lindemuth was hoping the Wolves could manage a sweep at home this week after defeating Brockway on Wednesday and Curwensville on Thursday. The Wolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Port Allegany Gators answered with four runs in the top of the second and outlasted the home team 11-7 at Pat Santilli Field on Friday.
