Evelyn M. "Susie" Lantz, 87, formerly of West Kane and Oberg Avenue in Mt. Jewett, died early Wednesday morning, Jan. 1, 2014 at the Lutheran Home at Kane, where she was a resident.
Born July 10, 1926 in Kane, she was the daughter of Ira Raymond and Alma W. Anderson Sloan.Â On Oct. 18, 1952 in West Kane, she married Carl E. Lantz, who died Feb. 1, 2012.
Susie was a beautician for over 50 yearsÂ with herÂ shop in her home, and owned and operated the Kane Motel with her husband for several years.

SMETHPORT â€“ A Mt. Jewett couple have entered "no contest" pleas to charges linked with the alleged withholding of food from three adoptive children as a form of punishment.
HAZEL HURST â€“ Hamlin Township has a new secretary-treasurer.
Acting at a special meeting Monday, the township Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 to hire Nicole L. "Nickie" Wheatley Causer of Hazel Hurst for the position.
Leonard Kay Nelson Sr., 87, of 621 Tionesta Ave., died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 at his home.
He was born May 20, 1926 in Kane to Joseph & Ellen (Hanson) Nelson.
Leonard grew up and attended school in DeYoung, and was an avid baseball player as a young man. In 1947, in Kane, Leonard married Louise Porter.Â They were happily married for 64 years. She preceded him in death in 2012.
Donald E. Cooley, 76, of 215 Park Ave., Kane, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 29, 2013 at Sena Kean Manor in Smethport where he resided since last Friday.
A lifelong resident of Kane, he was born Jan. 24, 1937 in Kane, son of John J. and Frances M. Smith Cooley.Â
He served in the U.S. Army for four years during the Vietnam War, then transferred to the Army Reserves.Â Mr. Cooley then worked for the Hanley Brick Company in Lewis Run for many years.Â He was an avid hunter with his beagle, Patty, alongside.

Montecalvo is stepping down after 60 years of public service to the borough of Lewis Run, first as a borough council member for four years and then as mayor for 56 years.
ST. MARYS â€“ The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen ended the EQT Energy Classic Elk County Holiday Tournament with a tough 51-40 loss to the Kane Wolves on Saturday afternoon in a consolation game played at Elk County Catholic High School.
The Wolves held a slim 17-16 lead after the first quarter but then outscored St. Marys 15-9 in the second to go up 32-25 at the half. A low scoring third quarter put Kane ahead 39-29 and they maintained that advantage in the fourth quarter to come away with the win.
ST. MARYS â€“ Kane girls basketball won 42-22 over Ridgway Saturday afternoon in a consolation game of the EQT Energy Classic held at Elk County Catholic High School.
