Wolves basketball teams open season at Keystone Tourney

The Kane boys’ basketball teams opened their seasons on Friday night at the Keystone Tip-off Tournament. The Wolves’ junior varsity team began their season on a high note, defeating the host team by a score of 49-44. Jack Kocjancic led the young Wolves with 10 points, followed by Tyler Weidenhoff and Chris Udovich with eight points each and Andey Bundy with seven.

Junior varsity places second

The Kane boys' junior varsity team placed second at the Keystone Tip-off Tournament held this past weekend. The Wolves defeated the Keystone Panthers 49-44 to earn a spot in the championship game where they lost to DuBois. Andy Bundy and Jack Kocjancic were selected to the All-tournament team.

Krieg will keep sheriff's office open

With the Elk County sheriff's department reportedly facing a projected budget deficit of approximately $9,000 and the board of commissioners unwilling to cover the monetary figure, sheriff Jeffrey C. Krieg said Sunday night that he, along with chief deputy Theresa Merritt, will be working "until all this is settled."

Trimming trees along Route 66

A crew is taking advantage of unusually mild early December weather to begin work to trim trees along Route 66 in the Allegheny National Forest south of Kane. The falling branches from the trimming are put through a “chipping” machine on the berm of the road. The wood chips are deposited on the forest floor. One-lane traffic is maintained with the use of automated electronic signals instead of human “flaggers.”

Kevin A. Lindquist, 48, of Wetmore Road, Kane, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at Kane Community Hospital.
Born Jan. 19, 1964, in Kane, he was a son of Ann Benson Lindquist and the late George Lindquist.
Kevin was a mechanic and was employed by Jones Chevrolet for many years. He also had worked for Kuhn's Saw Shop and most recently, he worked for Tom Rich.
He belonged to the B.P.O. Elks # 329 for many years and previously served as Exalted Ruler.

None injured in truck accident on Route 66

RUSSELL CITY – Miraculously, no one was injured Friday morning when a box truck collided with a trailer hauling a crane on Route 66 just west of Russell City in Elk County.

The Kane Wolves wrestling team finished their 2011-2012 regular season with a 14-1 record and won their first Allegheny Mountain League title.

Lady Wolves have trifecta: experience, size and speed

Coach Dave Kiehl enters his fifth season as head coach of the Kane Lady Wolves with the bulk of last year’s team returning. Seven players will be suiting up for their senior season on the hardwood, along with four juniors. The 2011-2012 Lady Wolves finished the season 20-9, losing to WPIAL top seed Vincentian 62-60 in overtime in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs.
