Nancy Sue Goodwin, formerly of Kane, died of cancer on Aug. 8, 2013.
She was born Oct. 25, 1938 in Kane, in the heart of the Allegheny Mountains. Her father was Berrier Peterson, a logger and a carpenter. She worked at the soda fountain at Bush's Pharmacy, had a dog named Leach and was the Queen of the Hunt one year in high school.
Michael J. Kennedy, 19, of 641 East Center St., Johnsonburg, died early Sunday morning, Aug. 11, 2013 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Kane.
Born Aug. 21, 1993 in Kronach, Germany, he was the son of Joseph C. and Tanja L. Kirch Kennedy.
A 2012 graduate of Johnsonburg High School, he was employed by Kane Manufacturing.Â Michael belonged to Tabor Lutheran Church in Kane, the Grey Knights Drum & Bugle Corps in Johnsonburg, and had been a member of the Ruffed Grouse Society.

WETMORE TWP. â€“Â Two Johnsonburg residents were killed and two juveniles injured in a two-vehicle head-on collision that occurred just after midnight on Sunday in McKean County.
The Teen Queen was crowned Sunday at the closing ceremony for the annual Mt. Jewett Swedish Festival. The group includes, left to right: Haley Williams, first runner-up; Brynn Howard, the 2013 Teen Queen; Maya Huckabone, the 2012 Teen Queen; and Ally Carpenter, coordinator for the Teen Queen Contest. Howard is the 13-year-old daughter of Ted and Karen Howard.
Bruce and Cindy Jack were introduced as the 2013 Mt. Jewett Swedish Festival Senior King and Queen at Friday evening's opening ceremonies.
SMETHPORT â€“ The attorney for Pastor Mark Hooper of Mount Jewett asked Judge John Cleland to drop the charge of endangerment of the welfare of a child in a hearing on Friday afternoon at the McKean County Courthouse.
Gertrude F. Anderson, age 93, formerly of Harrison Township, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013 at 8:05 p.m. at The Lutheran Home in Kane.
She was born on her mother's birthday on Maple Street in Natrona Heights on July 14, 1920, daughter of Henry and Pearl Buzzard Sherrieb. She resided in the Harrison Township area for 90 years and had lived at The Lutheran Home of Kane since 2011.
She was a graduate of Har-Brack High School in 1939 and worked as an operator for Bell Telephone, and as a homemaker.
Kane native Sarah Hall didnâ€™t have far to look to find motivation for her niche in life.
â€śGrowing up with the beautiful Allegheny National Forest as my backyard is what inspired me to follow my passion for nature,â€ť Hall said. â€śI knew I wanted to help conserve forests and now thatâ€™s what I get to do everyday for a living.â€ť
Members of the Kane Senior Center have spent much of the last year writing letters, sending packages and praying for Kane native Major Katie Yancosek, who was stationed in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army until recently.
