M. Joyce Maljovec, 84, of 401 W. Hemlock Ave., Kane, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born March 26, 1929, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Leo and Marguerite West McKenna. On Nov. 25, 1950, at St. Callistus ChurchÂ in Kane, she married Joseph J. Maljovec Sr. who survives.
Mrs. Maljovec was a member of St. Callistus Catholic Church. In 2006, she received the papal honor of Ladies of Pope St. Sylvester for her dedication and service to the Catholic Church.Â Before retirement, Joyce had workedÂ as a registered nurse at Kane Community Hospital.
The Kane Wolves won the Allegheny Mountain League title with a 36-6 win over Sheffield on Friday night at Paul R Miller Stadium. The Wolverines, buoyed by a big contingent of fans that made the 18-mile trip up state Route 6, trailed only 14-0 at the half, but the Wolves were too much for the visitors in the second half and went on to win their fourth league title since 2000.

A change was made Friday in the bail for Kathleen S. Douglas-- a Kane woman facing manslaughter charges in a horrific Aug. 31 traffic accident that killed six.
Kane District Court Judge Dave Engman said Friday that the bail for Douglas will remain at $750,000.

According to Jennifer Macey of the Kane Area United Fund Board of Directors, the organization has achieved 52.23 percent of their $38,000 goal for 2013.
Mt. Jewett held their annual Halloween parade on Thursday afternoon. Children walked up Main Street to the fire hall where the costumes were judged and prizes were awarded by the Mt. Jewett Rotary Club. After the festivities at the firehall, children were free to trick or treat throughout town until 7:30 p.m.
The Kane Wolves defeated the Sheffield Wolverines 34-6 back on Aug. 31 in both teamsâ€™ season openers. Both Kane coach Todd Silfies and Sheffield coach Dave Fitch know that the Sheffield team that lost to the Wolves in week one is not the same Wolverine team that will take the field tonight in the AML championship.
PITTSBURGH â€“ Surrounded by transportation advocates and regional officials, Governor Tom Corbett on Wednesday highlighted the Pittsburgh regionâ€™s need for a comprehensive transportation plan.
Corbett, standing in the shadow of the Birmingham Bridge, also urged the public to call their lawmakers and demand action on a bill. Negotiations on a compromise transportation plan will continue when the General Assembly returns to session on Nov. 12.
