In the past five years, The Ridgway Record and The Kane Republican Editor Joseph Bell has acclimated himself to the community by covering everything from news to sports, and throughout those experiences has formed relationships with a wide variety of individuals and organizations. These bonds led Bell to pen numerous commentaries, three of which were recently recognized as Keystone Press Award winners from the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association (PNA).
SMETHPORT â A total of 29 properties with unpaid taxes sold by auction Monday at the McKean County Judicial Tax Sale at the courthouse in Smethport.

Michela E. Carlson, 85, of 6 East Sycamore Place, Lewisburg, formerly of Kane, passed away Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Riverwoods Nursing Home in Lewisburg.
Born April 13, 1927, in Kane, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Rose Montour Bonadio. On Sept. 14, 1948, in Kane, she married Carl "Bob" Carlson who survives.
Mrs. Carlson, a 1944 graduate of Kane High School, was employed as a dental assistant until retirement in 1974.
Persons are violating Kane borough ordinances by illegally dumping furniture, carpeting and other junk at the site of the trash recycling bins at Glenwood Park on Hacker Street.
Rodger, a basset hound owned by Cindy and Joe Parker, stopped by to visit the McKean County SPCA tree at Friendsâ Memorial Public Library to drop off his donation.Â The public is invited to select an ornament from the tree.Â Each ornament has a picture of dogs and cats available for adoption, and suggestions for donation items for the SPCA.

Itâs been nearly two weeks since the Kane Wolves 2012 football season came to a screeching halt with their 33-27 loss to Karns City in the District 9 Class AA final. The knowledge that they were 12 seconds away from the title is sure to be something that sticks with the Kane coaches, players and fans, but it doesnât diminish a great season.
SMETHPORT â The defunct Kane Magnetics plant on Elk Avenue is among 123 properties up for auction Monday at the McKean County Judicial Sale.
Kathy Roche, director of the county Tax Claim Bureau, said the minimum bids for the properties sold at the Judicial Sale cover only the âcostsâ associated with preparing for the event.
