Kane earns first place in cheerleading competition

January 30, 2012

ST. MARYS – The Kane Varsity Competition Cheerleading team travelled to the Elk County Catholic Cheer Frenzy on Saturday and came home with first in the varsity division as well as the Judges Choice Award for the entire competition.
The past week was a very difficult week for the team as they lost a vital member due to an injury. One of the team’s youngest members, an alternate, Dana Swartwood, had to step in and fill the void. The alternates are like the bench in other sports in that they learn the routine and may never get the opportunity to step in, but come to practice every day.

January 30, 2012

I recently received a letter from former Kane High School standout athlete Jim Chavez that I would like to share with you. I believe this really is a great little story for the community to share.
Jim was a 1966 graduate of Kane and has had the great pleasure of being able to talk with Joe Paterno, the former head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions football team who passed away recently.

Over 65 attended the banquet at the Kane Country Club and applauded the presentation of awards to the late Jim Salvamoser as the "citizen-of-the-year" and the Kane Eagles Club as the "business-of-the-year."
It was a bittersweet tribute to Salvamoser, a long-time community leader who died unexpectedly last month.

Brookville surges in second half to defeat Kane

January 26, 2012

The Kane Wolves put together probably their best first half of the season against a very good Brookville team but lost, 57-36.
The Raiders used their team size to control the boards for most of the night. Kane had a great first quarter by A.J. Stefani as he played maybe the best center in the league in Zane Hackett pretty much even. Stefani had a few blocked shots as well as altering several others. Tyler Ennis also had a good night on the boards as he made a good contribution with several key rebounds.
Jeff Kocjancic led Kane in scoring with 14 points. Stefani was next with seven.
