Dance team excels at Cleveland competition

Nikky’s Dance Studio Competition Team from Smethport attended Revolution Talent Competition this weekend in Cleveland, Ohio. They received seven platinum and five elite gold medals for the twelve dances the preformed.

Kane School Board approves several personnel items

The Kane School Board approved several personnel items at its meeting Thursday at the Kane Middle School auditorium.
In action, the board:
*Named Kelly Peterson to the list of substitute teachers.
*Placed Rochelle Causer on the list of substitute cafeteria workers and list of substitute teacher aides.
*Named Judy Bennett as a substitute van driver.
*Approved volunteers for the school district. They include: Sara Ackley, Karen Kerner, Jen Blankenship, Lisa Grube, Taylor Detrick, Maria Jones and Melanie Selan.

Supporting the fight against texting and driving

Imagine attempting to keep a vehicle safely on the road while driving blindfolded for five seconds at 55 miles per hour. In addition, by this time a driver has covered an area slightly longer than a football field.What may sound like a challenge to some is a risk drivers take every day when reading or sending a text message.
One local business owner is hoping to raise awareness to the dangers of texting and driving through participation in the Red Thumb Reminder project, encouraging drivers to paint their thumb nail red or wear a red band or string around their finger.

Kane cheerleaders place at Clarion competition

The Kane Varsity Cheerleading team kept on in their winning ways at the Champion Cheer Central Red Hot Cheer and Dance Competition in Clarion this past Sunday.

Kane wrestlers excel at Jr. High D9 tournament

The Kane Middle School wrestling team competed at the Junior High District 9 Tournament held Saturday in Brockway.
Three eighth-graders, Aiden Hulings, Noah Blankenship, and Alec English, placed first in the tournament earning a medal and District 9 champion T-shirt.
Also participating were Jake Silvis, James Flemming, Ty Stahli, Teddy Race, Adam Sicher, Dominic Cartwright, Dakota Menteer, Christian Whisner, Lane Hillard, Aiden Hulings, Alec English, Noah Blankenship and Cameron Whisner.

Theodore L. "Ted" Hutchins

February 15, 2015

Theodore L. "Ted" Hutchins, 68, of 526 Janeway St., died suddenly Sunday morning, Feb. 15, 2015 at Kane Community Hospital.
Born April 11, 1946, in Kane, he was a son of the late John and Mary Zaunick Hutchins. On Nov. 9, 1972, in Kane, he married Jennifer Wilson who survives.
Ted had been employed at SGL Carbon in St. Marys.

Larry A. “Space” Buzard

Larry A. “Space” Buzard, 57, of 130 Greeves St., Kane, died Friday morning, Feb. 13, 2015 at his residence.
Born Aug. 7, 1957 in Kane, he was the son of Royd L. and Norah M. Galera Buzard.
He was employed by Kane Hardwood for 36 years.
An active member of the B.P.O. Elks #329 in Kane, he was a Past Exalted Ruler and Past District Deputy of the Pennsylvania Elks Northwest District. He enjoyed bowling there immensely.

Ruth C. Quist

Ruth C. Quist, 94, a longtime resident of Mt. Jewett, died Friday morning, Feb. 13, 2015 at St. Martha’s Manor in Downingtown, near her daughter and her family.
Born March 6, 1920 in Marvindale, she was the daughter of Elof and Eva Herron Carlson. On Feb. 16, 1942, she married Harold E. Quist, who died in 1985.
Mrs. Quist, along with her husband, owned and operated Quisty’s in Mt. Jewett for 30 years, with her retirement in 2000. Both had many friends in the community.
Ruth was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Mt. Jewett.

Kane girls lose at DCC in league playoffs, 42-26

DuBOIS – Not this time.
The Kane girls basketball team rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit Tuesday to defeat Brookville in its final regular-season home game.
They dug themselves into another hole Friday in an Allegheny Mountain League (AML) semifinal playoff game at DuBois Central Catholic (DCC).
They couldn't climb out.
The Cardinals-- the No. 1 team in the AML South-- outscored the Lady Wolves in every quarter en route to a 42-26 victory over Kane-- the No. 2 team in the AML North.

Charges vs. ex-sheriff bound over to county court

Charges against former McKean County sheriff Bradley A. Mason have been bound over to county court.
Mason is charged with two counts of corruption of minors and furnishing alcohol to a minor.
According to court documents, Mason, 52, the charges are linked with his alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl.
The alleged tryst took place while she was a tenant in a house he owns adjacent to his residence at 1230 South Ave., Bradford Township.
