Lady Wolves track team has numbers and talent in 2014

The Kane Lady Wolves track and field team placed second at last year’s District 9 AA meet. While the team lost some very talented athletes to graduation, this year’s team has head coach Jim Sirianni anxiously awaiting the start of the season and hoping to equal or better last season’s runner-up finish.

Kane boys track and field team ready to get season underway

Kane boys’ track coach Tom Cecchetti welcomes back 17 letter-winners from last year’s District 9 AA Championship squad. In addition to the letter-winners, the Wolves’ veteran coach has 30 more boys that reported for the first practice of the season.

Kane baseball team under new leadership

Bruce Kumher will be wearing a new hat several days a week for the next couple months. Kumher, who is a minister from Mt. Jewett, will be taking over the reins of the Kane Wolves’ baseball team this season. Joining him in the dugout is Steve Peterson, who was on the coaching staff last season when Josh Lindemuth was in charge. When Lindemuth elected not to return to the post this season, Kumher stepped in to fill the void.

Anderson named to All-State Team

Kane's Nick Anderson has been named to the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches' Association's All-State team for his performance during the indoor track season.

The Kane Area School District has policies in place to deal with bullies and students who engage in harassment and hazing.
Dr. Maryann Anderson, superintendent of the school district, said the policies are part of the school code found on the district's website on the internet. 

Major crash shuts down Boot Jack

RIDGWAY TWP. – A multi-vehicle crash Wednesday morning shut down state Route 219 for over two and a half hours after a head-on collision with a loaded coal truck spilled debris over the two-lane roadway near 15926 Boot Jack Road (SR 219) in Ridgway Township.

Martin to be tried by attorney general

Karen Sanders Molyneaux Hessney, 56, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, of 411 East State Street, Olean, N.Y., died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at her home after a long courageous battle with breast cancer. At her passing, she was surrounded by beloved family and friends.
She was born Oct. 25, 1957 in Kane, daughter of the late Russell and Betsy Klawuhn Sanders. She grew up in Lanz Corners (Toby Springs) and graduated from Smethport High School in 1975. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech and audiology from Clarion University.

Kane Sesquicentennial Committee seeks help

The committee planning the Kane Sesquicentennial celebration this summer is seeking more help.
Sue Holt, chairman of the committee, said additional volunteers are needed to supervise events planned during the week-long celebration.
