Seneca now seeks court injunction against Highland Twp.

JAMES CITY – Seneca Resources last month initiated a federal lawsuit against Highland Township over Seneca's proposed injection well.
Seneca now is seeking a "preliminary injunction" to prevent the township from stopping the injection well plan-- the conversion of a natural gas well into an underground disposal site for drilling wastes.
In a motion, Seneca is asking the federal court in Erie to issue an order to "immediately" block the township from "directly or indirectly interfering with Seneca's operations in conjunction with its planned" injection well.

Martin trial to begin Wednesday morning

RIDGWAY – With jury selection completed Tuesday afternoon, the trial of Nicholas Martin, 24, of Johnsonburg is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. today at the Elk County Courthouse.
Martin is charged in connection with the March 2013 stabbing death of 18-year-old Alyssa Forsyth.
He is alleged to have stabbed Forsyth, his then-girlfriend, inside his Johnsonburg apartment and then dumped her body in an area park where she was found two days later. He is charged with criminal homicide, two felony counts of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of abuse of a corpse.

An Airbus with 150 people onboard crashed in the southern French Alps on Tuesday,
officials said. The A320, operated by Lufthansa’s budget airline Germanwings, was
flying from Barcelona to Dusseldorf and went down in the Digne region of the
Alps-De-Haute Province, according to Reuters. There were 144 passengers, two pilots
and four crew members, Germanwings said. "We are sorry to confirm that flight 4U9525

Dilley charged in bath salts raid

Following a search warrant conducted March 5 at 122 Houston Rd., Jeremiah Adam Dilley, 35, of St. Marys, is charged with five felony offenses related to the possession, sale and distribution of alpha-PVP, a stimulant drug commonly known as bath salts.
According to police, Dilley was found in an upstairs bedroom of the home of Chelsea Ann Micale, 27, who was the primary suspect of the investigation.
During Micale's preliminary hearing, arresting officer Anthony Pistner of the St. Marys Police Department described Dilley "growling like an animal" after being cuffed.

Jury selection begins for Martin trial

RIDGWAY – Seven jurors were selected Monday from a pool of 110 for the trial of Nicholas Martin, 24, of Johnsonburg, who will stand trial for the March 23, 2013 stabbing death of his girlfriend, 18-year-old Alyssa Forsyth.
Martin is charged with criminal homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of abuse of a corpse.
The selection process will continue Tuesday until the defense and prosecution narrows down a total of 14 jurors (12 main and two alternates) to hear the case. The trial is scheduled to commence immediately following jury selection.

Kathy Sluga is new secretary for Hamlin Township

HAZEL HURST – Kathy Sluga of Mt. Jewett is the new secretary-treasurer for Hamlin Township.
She replaces Nicole L. "Nickie" Wheatley Causer of Kane, who resigned in January. Sluga's starting pay is $12.56 per hour.
A 1979 graduate of Kane Area High School, Sluga is a former member of the Mt. Jewett Borough Council.
She attended Clarion University and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. For eight years, she worked as the office manager at TRW Mechanical in Mt. Jewett.

Kane native among 6 for Clarion U. Sports Hall of Fame

CLARION – Kane native Francis "Fran" Sirianni is one of six new members of the Clarion University Sports Hall of Fame.
He is a 19699 graduate of Clarion with a degree in education (science).
Sirianni was a four-year starter at defensive back for the Golden Eagles from 1965-1968, helping lead Clarion to PSAC-West titles in 1966 and 1967, as well as a perfect 10-0 season and the PSAC crown in 1966 and a runner-up PSAC finish and an 8-2 record in 1967.

Big Dance Roundup and Look Ahead
 
Last week we gave you a preview of the tournament and some predictions of teams that we felt could make a run to the Final 4. Well, those predictions were way off and the bracket this writer submitted to his friends and a couple websites sits in about 10 millionth place. All the wise guys were talking about Iowa State and Virginia. Those teams won a combined 1 game. Now we are going to go region by region to see what happened and what we can look forward to seeing next weekend.

Little dog is big hero in house fire in Mt. Jewett

MT. JEWETT – A barking Shorkie dog can be very annoying.
Thank God.
A little Shorkie is credited with saving the lives of a Mt. Jewett mother and her two young daughters when fire erupted Thursday night at their home.
The fire destroyed the two-story house at 44 E. Main St. owned by Aaron and Sarah Maynard Avenali.
But Sarah and her daughters-- Maya, 3, and Ada, 4,-- escaped from the burning house without injury.
