Making apple cider at Fall Festival

Maggie Cunningham, the 6-year-old daughter of Stephanie Cunningham of Weedville, turns the press Sunday to make apple cider at the Kinzua Bridge State Park "Fall Festival." The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) staffed the cider-making booth at the festival.

Heindls donate to DRMC

DuBois Regional Medical Center, an affiliate of Penn Highlands Healthcare, recently received its largest donation as Denny and Rose Heindl of Ridgway pledged a gift of $300,000 over three years for The Lung Center at DRMC West.

Lady Wolves volleyball team competes in West Branch tourney

The Kane Lady Wolves took part in the West Branch Tournament on Saturday and finished the day with a 4-6 record. The Lady Wolves defeated Bellefonte 25-23 and 25-11, lost to Mansfield 25-13 and 25-13, defeated Moshannon Valley 25-16 and 25-17 and lost to West Branch 25-16 and 25-17 to finish the round robin with a 4-4 record. In the quarterfinals, coach Judy Kessler’s squad lost to Central Mountain 25-11 and 25-19 to end their day.

Gary R. Bush

Gary R. Bush, 59, of Smethport, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 in St. Vincent Hospital, Erie.
He was born Nov. 5, 1953 in Kane, a son of Ralph and June Thayer Bush.
On Aug. 9, 1975, in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church of Lewis Run, he married Marian M. Farrell, who survives.
Gary was a 1971 graduate of Kane High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. He owned and operated Bush Trucking Co. in Smethport and was co-owner of the Smethport Drive-In with his wife, Marian.

Wolves rally to defeat Rovers

BROCKWAY – The Kane Wolves overcame a 17-point deficit in Friday night’s game in Brockway to win a battle of 3-0 teams. The Wolves trailed 31-14 early in the third quarter before the defense made some adjustments and the Kane offense took control of the game in the second half on their way to posting an improbable 35-31 win over the Rovers.

Kane Borough Council faces several key issues

The Kane Borough Council will be facing several key issues when it meets Monday at 4 p.m. at the borough building.
The monthly meeting-- reset from Sept. 9-- is open to the public.

Doris Lee Martin

September 21, 2013

Doris Lee Martin, 80, of 616 N. Fraley St., passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013 at her home.
Born Aug. 10, 1933, she was a daughter of Carl B. Hazzard and Goldie G. Strait. On Aug. 19, 1950, she married John C. Martin who preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 2007.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Martin worked at the Lutheran Home at Kane.
Surviving are four children, Robert Martin of Waymart, Rebecca Ehrlinger of Greencastle, Randy Martin of Mt. Jewett and Roberta Fitch of Commerce City, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

LeRoy J. Neubert

September 20, 2013

LeRoy J. Neubert, 70, of 86 Worral St., Wilcox, died on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Dec. 15, 1942 in Benzinger, son of the late LeRoy E. and Anne Danko Neubert.
He married Doris Stewart on May 3, 1973 in St. Callistus Church in Kane, who survives.
Leroy resided in Wilcox all his life. He was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School in 1960.

88 vendors are set for Kinzua Bridge 'Fall Festival'

MT. JEWETT – The 18th Kinzua Bridge State Park “Fall Festival” will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, rain or shine. 

Susan Grolemund seeks seat on Kane School Board

Susan Grolemund, a retired Kane teacher, has announced her intention to run as a write-in candidate for a seat on the nine-member Kane School Board.
She becomes the seventh candidate seeking four seats on the board in the Nov. 5 election.
