‘Major’ snowstorm is latest in April since 1928

April 23, 2012

The surprise snowstorm Monday and today is bringing significant snowfall to the Kane area on the latest April date in 84 years.
“It’s rare,” meteorologist Aaron Tyburski said Monday in describing the storm that is expected to dump more than six inches of heavy wet snow before it tapers off today.
Tyburski, who is based at the National Weather Service office in State College, said records indicate that the “major” storm is bringing significant snowfall to the area on the latest April date since 1928. A storm that year with significant snowfall hit the area April 27-28, he said.
