Kane area Republicans gave solid support Tuesday to Mitt Romney for President in a lackluster primary election.
Nationwide, Romney appears to be the Republican nominee to oppose incumbent Democrat incumbent President Barack Obama in the Nov. 6 general election.
Romney was heavily favored by Republicans in virtually every polling place in the Kane area.
In the borough of Kane, Romney led with 55 votes in the First Ward, 45 votes in the Third Ward and 16 votes in the Fourth Ward.
In the Second Ward, Rick Santorum edged Romney by a vote of 9-7.
âItâs pretty amazing!â
Thatâs how meteorologist Aaron Tyburski describes the Monday-Tuesday snowstorm in the Kane area.
âItâs the biggest storm of the season,â Tyburski said Tuesday. He said the storm dumped between six and eight inches of snow on the area.
The meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in State College said some areas near Kane might have received less than six inches. On the other hand, he said some areas received more than eight inches.

The surprise snowstorm Monday and today is bringing significant snowfall to the Kane area on the latest April date in 84 years.
âItâs rare,â meteorologist Aaron Tyburski said Monday in describing the storm that is expected to dump more than six inches of heavy wet snow before it tapers off today.
Tyburski, who is based at the National Weather Service office in State College, said records indicate that the âmajorâ storm is bringing significant snowfall to the area on the latest April date since 1928. A storm that year with significant snowfall hit the area April 27-28, he said.

Having a sick child who must undergo hospital treatment is a parentâs worst nightmare.
And not being able to afford to stay at the childâs bedside is an unfathomable heartache.
Thanks to the âPennies From Heavenâ fund, financial assistance is provided to needy parents of children admitted to Childrenâs Hospital in Pittsburgh. The aid enables parents to remain with their children during the stay in the hospital.
Kane native Jon R. Perry and his wife, the former Joni Detrick of Kane, are the founders of the âPennies From Heavenâ fund.

School students usually return home daily with books and other educational materials.
Imagine the look on the faces of parents Friday when their first-graders in the Kane Elementary School came home with a tree.
In observance of Arbor Day this month, the McKean County Conservation District sponsored the "My Growing Tree" program Friday at the school.
Every first-grade student at the school received their own Eastern Hemlock seedling to take home and plant. The students also receive a "My Growing Tree" chart to compare their growth with the growth of their tree.

Property-owners in the Kane Area School District now can pay their taxes in three equal installments rather than all at once.
Acting at its meeting Thursday, the Kane School Board authorized the installment plan beginning with taxes due later this year.
In the boroughs of Kane and Mt. Jewett along with Wetmore and Hamilton townships, property-owners can make their installment payments on Sept. 15, Oct. 15 and Nov. 15.
In Highland Township and the Lamont section of Jones Township in Elk County, the installment payments are due Aug. 15, Sept. 15 and Oct. 15.

ST. MARYS â The St. Marys City Police Department reports investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Bucktail Road (SR 120) on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 11:15 a.m. that claimed the life of Frederick K. Beck, age 74, of Emporium.
Police report that a 2008 Jeep operated by Beck was traveling westbound on Bucktail Road, approaching a curve in the roadway. A 2002 Freightliner single-unit box truck operated by Michael L. Barr, 57, of Kersey, was traveling eastbound on Bucktail Road approaching the same curve.
It took more than two hours Wednesday to crown the champions in the second annual Spelling Bee at the Kane Middle School auditorium.
Matt Johnson, a fifth-grader from the Johnsonburg Elementary School, took first place in the division for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students.
Bobby Rumcik, a third-grader in the Kane Elementary School, won the division for second and third-grade students. He won the same division last year as a second-grader.
Lindsey Kocjancic, a fifth-grade student in Johnsonburg, finished second in the division for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students.

A Kane man has been sentenced to 15 days in the McKean County Jail following a non-jury trial Monday in Kane District Court.
Judge Dave Engman handed down the sentence for William W. Leet, 36, of 308 Welsh St. after finding the defendant guilty of operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked driverâs license.
According to court information, this is the fifth time Leet has been convicted of operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked driverâs license.
