SMETHPORT â McKean County will save over $205,000 by refinancing loans from 2007.
Acting at a special meeting Thursday, County Commissioners Joe DeMott, Al Pingie and Cliff Lane approved a âdebt ordinanceâ that calls for the issuance of $3,590,000 in new bonds to be repaid over an 11-year period.
The new loan pays off three bonds issued in 2007 for such projects as the courthouse renovation and the replacement of the Galico Bridge in Keating Township.
Falling interest rates prompted the commissioners to consider refinancing the 2007 bonds to save interest payments.
An âArtist in Residenceâ is helping 10 Kane Middle School students lay the groundwork for a video linked with the Kane Sesquicentennial in 2014.
Author PJ Piccirillo, a historical novelist from Brockport in southern Elk County, is showing the students how to gather information for the video. His appearance in Kane is sponsored, in part, by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and Arts in Education Partnership.
The school district, the Kane Historical Preservation Society, the Kane 150th Anniversary Committee and the Keystone SMILES Americorps also are hosting his visit to Kane.
