SMETHPORT â A high rate of poverty and substantial unemployment have led to an ongoing âhomelessâ problem in McKean County.
To address this dilemma, the Young Womenâs Christian Association (YWCA) in Bradford is seeking a grant of $68,374 from the state Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).
Using funding from the United Way and other sources, the YWCA will match the grant âdollar-for-dollar,â according to Amy Pierce. She is the executive director of the YWCA, which operates the only âhomeless shelterâ in McKean County.
SMETHPORT â Within a month, Jim Herzog of Smethport again will be appealing the assessment on his timber land in McKean County.
A notice he received earlier this month from the county assessment office shows that the value for âClean and Greenâ forest reserve properties is $255 per acre.
Herzog, however, claims that all forest properties under the âClean and Green (C&G)â program should be valued at only $94 per acre.
RIDGWAY â A joint investigation between the Pennsylvania State Police at the Ridgway barracks and the Ridgway Borough Police Department has resulted in the arrest of Francis "Tony" Milliard, 54, and Anthony Milliard, 28, both of Ridgway.
Francis Milliard was apprehended on felony arrest warrants for multiple counts of arson, criminal mischief, and recklessly endangering another person, charges related to a May 30 fire at the residence of Pauline Smith, 521 West Main St. in Ridgway Township.
Anthony Milliard was also charged as a co-defendant in the matter.
