SMETHPORT â€“ A Mt. Jewett couple have entered "no contest" pleas to charges linked with the alleged withholding of food from three adoptive children as a form of punishment.
HAZEL HURST â€“ Hamlin Township has a new secretary-treasurer.
Acting at a special meeting Monday, the township Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 to hire Nicole L. "Nickie" Wheatley Causer of Hazel Hurst for the position.
Rep. Martin Causer presents a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to retiring Lewis Run Borough Mayor Abbie Montecalvo. Montecalvo is stepping down after 60 years of public service to the borough of Lewis Run, first as a borough council member for four years and then as mayor for 56 years.

LUDLOW â€“- The driver of a car that flipped on its roof along Route 6 near Ludlow on Christmas Eve faces fines of $594. An 18-year-old St. Marys residence was not injured in the accident about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at Route 6 and Wildcat Road near Ludlow.
It's been 45 years since a twin-engine Allegheny Airlines plane crashed while coming in for a landing at the Bradford Regional Airport in Lafayette Township.
The Christmas Eve crash in 1968 killed 20 passengers.
Miraculously, 27 survived.
Pennsylvania's elk herd draws thousands of visitors to the area each year, many of whom come bearing their cameras in hopes of leaving with photographs of the creatures to document their time in Elk Country. Now those who may not have had much luck getting their own photos can instead take home a new book featuring a variety of photos of the animals.
On Oct. 23, Kane Community Hospital (KCH) began to offer new platelet aggregate testing through Accumetrics VerifyNow System. The VerifyNow System provides physicians with valuable information to more effectively determine medication options to prevent recurrent cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events, such as heart attack or stroke. Platelet aggregate testing can reduce a patientâ€™s risk for a recurrent life-altering event because certain medications have been found not to work for every patient.
The Elk County Holiday Basketball Tournament will undergo a number of exciting changes this year as it becomes the EQT Energy Classic Elk County Holiday Tournament; however, one important element of the annual event will be continuing in a modified capacity.
The annual Coaches vs. Cancer campaign has been held during the tournament for a number of years, and has become a favorite of attendees as it has grown to include a competition to decide the favorite boys' and girls' coach each year and has also provided the opportunity for a lucky fan to leave with a basketball signed by all of the members of the girls' or boys' teams.
