Cinderella’s Closet being set up to help Kane “Princesses”

Households in Kane are being asked to clean out their closets for a good cause. Cinderella’s Closet of Kane, Pennsylvania will be up and running soon, hoping to be operational in time for Kane High School’s Junior/Senior Prom on May 3.

Property valuation decreases in borough of Kane

The assessed property valuation has declined in the borough of Kane.
This is another economic blow to the community because taxes are based on assessed property valuation.
The Kane Borough Council is scheduled to meet Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at the borough building to adopt a tax rate for 2014. 
The rate is expected to be 9.375 mills-- the same as this year. However, the same rate is not expected to generate as much tax revenue because of the decline in the assessed property valuation in Kane.

Elk County Commissioners approve tax hike

RIDGWAY – The Elk County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday morning voted to adopt their proposed 2014 budget which includes a one-mill increase, the first hike since 2009.
"We haven't received any comment from any taxpayer," Elk County Commissioner June Sorg said regarding the required 20-day comment period as the budget was displayed at the commissioners' office. "The increase is one mill and that usually brings in about $500,000 to the county, and it will be a $50 increase for a $50,000 assessment (roughly the same as a house with a $100,000 market value)."

Work underway on pavilion repairs at Kane park

Despite daily snow and frigid winter temperatures, work is underway to upgrade two pavilions at Evergreen Park in Kane.
The contractor is Carl E. Swanson and Sons of Bradford. 
The company submitted a low bid of $58,094 for the project, which is funded by federal community development block grant (CDBG) money allocated to Kane.

Childhood memories inspired an extensive hobby for Chuck Fox and Tom Schloder. “Tom’s Trains,” an extensive model train display spans a large room at Schloder’s home on East Eschbach Road.

No injuries reported in Kane chimney fire

December 14, 2013

No injuries were reported in a Friday afternoon chimney fire at the Tim Bradybaugh residence at 122 Beech St.
Tim Holt, chief of the Kane Volunteer Fire Department, said 23 firefighters responded to the call at 3 p.m. Friday in frigid conditions.

Kane 150th decks of cards now available

The Kane 150th Committee has a limited number of decks of cards available for purchase. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help pay for entertainment during next summer’s 150th celebration.

World War II vet picks winner for Patriot Award fundraiser

Alan Simchick of Johnsonburg is the winner of a Henry Rifle, a prize given in a fundraiser for the Staff Sgt. Kenneth R. VanGiesen Patriot Award in Kane.
The award goes each commencement to Kane High School graduates who are entering the military service. The award honors VanGiesen, a Kane native who was killed in Afghanistan while serving with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

Questions still arise on Kane borough budget

The Kane Borough Council earlier this week voted 7-0 to adopt a final budget for 2014.
Council President Howard Kane joined with Councilwomen Janet Bard and Holly Harris and Councilmen Dennis Drost, Del Cleer, John Gentilman and Tom Kase to approve the spending plan.

Volunteers to place Christmas lights at gazebo

Kim Cecchetti will be leading a team of volunteers to place Christmas lights on the gazebo at Evergreen Park in Kane.
Cecchetti said the lighting project would begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. More volunteers are needed.
