January 21st
A fire Monday evening caused extensive damage at a two-story house in Kane. Tim Holt, chief of the Kane Volunteer Fire Department, estimated damage at $65,000 to the house and contents. No injuries were reported.
The Kane Borough Sewer Authority is preparing to take "the next step" to sell sewer water to drillers for area Marcellus Shale natural gas wells.

JAMES CITY â A âsource waterâ protection plan may be developed for Highland Township in Elk County.
January 19th
ST. MARYS â The St. Marys City Police Department reports that charges have been filed against a female juvenile who claimed to be the victim of a kidnapping attempt outside St. Marys Area High School on Wednesday night.
January 18th
A "Welcome To Kane" sign-- similar to the one shown in this photo-- has been stolen from a site along Route 321 north of Kane. The Kane Borough Police Department is asking persons with information to contact police. The hand-carved sign is valued at $2,500. The Kane Chamber of Commerce installed the signs along highway entrances to the borough.

The Kane Borough Council earlier this week voted 7-0 to adopt a resolution that supports an "initiative' to make Route 6 a "scenic byway."
Council President Howard Kane joined with Councilwomen Janet Bard and Holly Harris and Councilmen Harold Hallberg, John Gentilman, Dennis Drost and Bill Tunall to endorse the resolution.

JAMES CITY â Angie Komidar of Kane is the new state-certified sewage treatment plant operator in James City.
Two black sneakers have been tied together and flung over the horizontal traffic signal pole at the intersection of Fraley and Greeves streets in Kane.

Vowing he can bring about efficiencies in the police department, former Kane police chief William "Yogi" Osmer confirmed Tuesday that he will run for election as mayor this year.
CLARION COUNTY â Clarion-based Pennsylvania State Police have reported that a 19-year-old woman reported missing over the weekend was found deceased inside her vehicle â which she was last seen driving Friday evening â Tuesday morning at 7 a.m.
PSP report that the victim, Devan C. Knapp of Brookville, was discovered in the vehicle along Summerville Drive in Millcreek Township, Clarion County, by a passerby. Members of PSP-Clarion and PSP-Punxsy reported to the scene.Â
The incident remains under open investigation, with an autopsy to be conducted at a date and time yet to be determined.
