February 19th
The Kane Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual banquet Thursday to honor the "citizen-of-the-year" and the "business-of-the-year."
The event begins with a social hour at 5 p.m. at the Kane Fire Hall on Poplar Street. Dinner is set for 6 p.m.
February 18th
Tickets now are on sale for the Kane High School musical-- "Guys and Dolls."
Performances are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday March 14-16 at 7 p.m. at the Kane Middle School auditorium. A final matinee performance is set for Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m.
February 17th
The Kane area, known as the “Icebox of Pennsylvania,” often has significant snowfalls and a wintry mix that create hazardous travel conditions.
The Kane Area School District, however, annually has the fewest “snow days” and “two-hour delays” among all schools in the region.
February 15th
There is major water damage inside the historic General Thomas Kane Memorial Chapel at 30 Chestnut St. in the borough.
Vandals are blamed for turning off gas heat to the building. The lack of heat caused heating system water lines to freeze and rupture.
February 14th
Kane school staff members and students in grades 6 through 12 now are carrying identification badges.
Staff members are expected to wear their school-issued badges in "plain view."Â
In addition to staff members, badges have been issued to coaches, club advisers and volunteers to wear.
Students in the Kane Middle School and Kane High School are expected to carry their ID badges and show them when asked.
February 13th
JAMES CITY – The Highland Township supervisors plans to meet with attorneys to map out a response to a threat of legal action by Seneca Resources.
In a letter, Seneca said it plans to file litigation in federal court to "invalidate" a Highland Township ordinance on the disposal of drilling wastewater in a proposed "injection" well near James City.
February 12th
MT. JEWETT – The Mt. Jewett Regional Sewer Authority has selected a nominee to fill a vacancy on the board.
Acting at its meeting Tuesday, the authority nominated Pat Crants of Kushequa Avenue, Mt. Jewett, to fill the seat formerly held by Mike Wennerstrom.
February 11th
The Kane Shade Tree Commission has been "challenged" to plant 150 new trees by next year-- the Kane bicentennial.
Two grants will help the commission meet this target.
HAZEL HURST – The long-awaited Lantz Corners sewer project is one step closer to reality.
The Hamlin Township Board of Supervisors voted 3-0 Monday to seek bids for the project as soon as the final construction drawings are complete.
February 10th
KEATING TWP. – The Kane-based state police report investigating a fatal crash that killed an 8-year-old male on Friday at 3:25 p.m. along E. Valley Road, west of Kent Hollow in Keating Township.
