Reminder to turn clocks forward

Kane kindergarten students Addy Johnson, 5, and Rhys Hushon, 6, remind area residents to turn their clocks FORWARD ONE HOUR when they go to bed tonight. Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday and continues until Nov. 3 when clocks are turned back one hour.

Red Cross praises Mt. Jewett boy for Sandy relief

MT. JEWETT – The American Red Cross has praised a 17-year-old Mt. Jewett boy who embarked on a local campaign to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy.
"It's a great personal mission," Jason Bange said in praising the relief work of Andrew Carlson, a junior at Kane Area High School. "This is an outstanding effort on his part."

Wetmore Twp. timber revenue dips to 10-year low

Wetmore Township this year is expected to receive only $76,372.70 as its share of timber sales on the Allegheny National Forest (ANF).
The amount is a decline of $17,925.74 from last year and is the lowest amount received by the township in a decade.
The township for years has counted on the "forestry" money to hold down property taxes. The township's share is based on its acreage within the ANF.

Mt. Jewett residents warned to clear sidewalks

MT. JEWETT – Mt. Jewett Police Officer Steve Hale right now isn't the most popular guy in the borough.
That's because he went door-to-door last week to issue warnings to residents who failed to shovel snow from their sidewalks.
During a 90-minute period last Thursday, Hale hand-delivered the notices as he walked Main, Boyd and Anderson streets.

The Church Women United of Kane held its March meeting Friday at the Emmanuel Mission Church in Kane.
The theme for the luncheon program was "Recognizing Our Gifts Through God's Presence."
About 50 women from seven Kane churches attended the event.
