3-day Swedish Festival opens Friday in Mt. Jewett

MT. JEWETT – “Sweder and Sweder…Every Year!”
This is the theme for the annual Swedish Festival in Mt. Jewett.
The three-day event opens Friday evening and continues through Sunday evening.
Like many festivals, the event includes amusement rides, food vendors, arts and crafts exhibits  and musical entertainment.

2013 Swedish Festival Queen candidates

The two candidates for the 2013 Swedish Festival Queen are pictured with last year's queen, Maya Huckabone. Haley Williams, pictured on the left, is the 15-year-old daughter of Bobbie Williams and a student at Kane Area High School. Brynn Howard, pictured to the right of Huckabone, is the daughter of Ted Howard and Karen Howard. The 13-year-old is a student of Smethport Area School District. The festival will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday with the crowning of the festival king and queen and conclude at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening.

Anne Park-Herzog gets ready to cut the ribbon for uptown Kane's newest store, Zanadu, on Saturday. The store, which is located in the former Archer's building, features a variety of craft supplies, including fabrics, sewing machines and accessories, ceramics, consignment items and children's craft kits.
