The proposed 2013-14 Kane school budget calls for a property tax increase of 2.3 percent.
With the Boston area population on edge during a massive manhunt to locate Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Mass., a student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and suspect in Monday's Boston Marathon bombings, local law enforcement officials on Friday shared their thoughts with the search and the differences in such practices in the immediate area.

JAMES CITY – It has been a whirlwind couple of months for James City’s Brenda Emer. Back in mid-February, she found out that she would not be able to start the clinical trial she was anticipating. Brenda went to Pittsburgh a week before the trial was set to start for a scan and a liver biopsy. Unfortunately, the scan showed a brain tumor.
Through good times and bad, Kane residents have shown pride in their community.
ERIE – A St. Marys man charged with siphoning off a half-million dollars from a local animal shelter and rescue as well as clients of his own financial service companies, pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and money laundering Thursday in an Erie federal court.

HAZEL HURST – The long-awaited Lantz Corners sewer project already is running behind a timetable announced last fall.
Elaine Surma, senior supervisory special agent for the state attorney general's Bureau of Narcotic Investigation and Drug Control, conducted the program in a live video conference.

Paving is planned at six sites in Kane this summer.
The Kane Borough Council acted at its meeting earlier this month to approve a low bid of $95,376 from IA Construction of Franklin for the paving project.
