W. Pa. doctor to stand trial in drugs-for-sex case

CLARION (AP) — A western Pennsylvania doctor has been ordered to stand trial on charges he overprescribed anti-addiction and anti-anxiety drugs and traded them for sex with female patients before his offices were raided and closed last year.

St. Marys man injured in accidental shooting

HAMLIN TWP. – A St. Marys man accidentally injured him self on Saturday when a weapon he believed to be unloaded accidentally discharged and struck him in the hip.

School board OKs limit on possible tax increase

As it has done for several years, the Kane School Board has placed a cap on a possible property tax increase in the 2014-15 school budget.
The board voted 9-0 Thursday to limit an increase to no more than 3.2 percent.

School business manager Perry to retire in 2015

Steve Perry, who has served as business manager for the Kane Area School District for 22 years, has announced that he plans to retire March 10, 2015.
Under his agreement with the school district, he is obligated to give a 15-month notification “prior to departing.”

Kindergarten Christmas program

Kindergarten students at the Kane Elementary School prepare to sing Friday afternoon at a Christmas program at the Kane Middle School auditorium. The students stood on risers on the stage for their popular concert.

Divisiveness marks Kane School Board meeting

Like oil and water, the newly-elected members of the Kane School Board aren't yet mixing well with the hold-overs.
This divisiveness was evident Thursday by split votes for president and vice president at the board's annual re-organizational meeting at the Kane Middle School auditorium.

Kane authority OKs 5% increase in sewer rates

The Kane Borough Sewer Authority voted 3-1 Thursday to adopt a 5 percent increase in sewer rates, effective Jan. 1.
Dave "Chip" Peterson, Howard Kane and Jim McCloskey favored the increase. Frank Wojcik cast the lone negative vote.

Wetmore supervisors OK budget with no tax hike

The Wetmore Township Board of Supervisors again is holding the line on taxes.
Supervisors Steve Dyne, Bill Ryding and Elaine Bodistow voted Tuesday to approve a final 2014 budget that carries the same tax rate as this year.

Lutheran Home at Kane staff recognition

The Lutheran Home at Kane recently held their annual staff recognition. On Nov. 18, 2013, 27 employees were recognized for reaching a milestone in service with the organization. Those honored included two employees with 30 years of service, one with 15 years, three with 10 years, eight with five years, six with three years, and seven with one year of service. Refreshments were served at the ceremony and all employees were recognized for their dedication, compassion and commitment to our residents and the organization.

No tax hike seen in McKean County budget plan

SMETHPORT – There’s no property tax increase in the tentative McKean County budget for 2014.
The spending plan unveiled Tuesday sets general fund expenditures at $15,967,729.05—an increase of 2.3 percent over this year.
