March 15th
JAMES CITY – Brenda Emer was first diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 1997. Her son John was three years old, her daughter Allison, only two. While still getting a handle on her own illness, Brenda found out that John had Type I Diabetes.

There's a lot of talent among the student body at Kane Area High School.
This was evident Thursday night at the premiere of the school musical "Guys and Dolls."

JAMES CITY – Two environmental groups are supporting the Highland Township Board of Supervisors in its attempt to block a proposed "injection well."
JAMES CITY – A contest for a six-year term as supervisor appears set in Highland Township.
According to the Elk County Board of Elections, Jim Wolfe of Russell City has filed petitions to seek the Democratic nomination for supervisor in the May 21 primary.

The deteriorating condition of the Kane High School swimming pool left the school board with a major dilemma.
The school district could either undertake major renovations or eliminate the pool.
SMETHPORT – One down and one to go.
The McKean County Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to approve a new three-year contract with the 15 union workers at the county 911 emergency center.

HAZEL HURST – A delay in obtaining right-of-way easements could delay work for the proposed Lantz Corners Sewer District.
"Young Lungs At Play" signs soon will be erected at Kane borough parks, which are now "tobacco-free zones."
The Kane Borough Council voted 4-2 Monday to adopt a policy that bans cigarette and cigar smoking, chewing tobacco and snuff in borough parks.

Kane kindergarten students Addy Johnson, 5, and Rhys Hushon, 6, remind area residents to turn their clocks FORWARD ONE HOUR when they go to bed tonight. Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday and continues until Nov. 3 when clocks are turned back one hour.
