Kane man is charged with fleeing police

June 30, 2014

A Kane man has been charged with fleeing police (a felony) after a high-speed chase Sunday on Route 6 west of Kane.
Hunter Ray Smith, 21, of 407 Oak St., Kane, has been placed in the McKean County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
Stave Police Trooper Roger McCloskey placed the charges after the Smith vehicle finally stopped in the parking lot of Zook Motors.

Local man jailed on drug charge

A Wetmore Township man is charged with a felony for allegedly providing prescription pain medicine to a Kane woman.
Salvatore Geral Colella, 55, of 582 S. Settlement Road, Wetmore Township, has been placed in the McKean County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail, according to court documents.

Kane woman, 86, is alleged victim of identity theft

Six felony charges have been filed in a case involving the alleged identity theft of an 86-year-old Kane woman.
Aimee Carol Anderson Wile Hodgdon, 41, of 213 Faries St., Wilcox, is accused of fraudulently obtaining a Capital One VISA card in the name of the victim and then using the card to make cash withdrawals and purchases.

Art in the Wilds

Gregg Kristophel is pictured working on a project while customers browse through his works at the Art in the Wilds on Sunday. The Harmony artist creates what he calls "Treenware", wooden utensils made with primitive hand tools. Kristophel was one of three dozen artists to display their works at the annual festival.

KAHS grad Donna Ingersoll working on 3rd novel

When Kane High’s Class of 1969 meets later today for their 45th class reunion, one of their classmates that will be missing is author Donna (Champion) Ingersoll. Ingersoll never expected to be an author but is currently working on her third novel.
Ingersoll grew up in Westline before moving to Mt. Jewett when she was 14, the daughter of Lorraine and Robert Thornton. The year after graduating from Kane High, she married Tim Ingersoll, a 1968 Kane grad. The couple had two children, Stephanie (Ingersoll Barker) and Timothy II and moved to Indianapolis in 1979, where they still reside.

Many activities are slated this weekend in Kane

A busy weekend looms ahead for residents of Kane and thousands of visitors.
Alumni Weekend is perhaps the happiest time of the year in Kane and the Art in the Wilds is the largest Kane summer attraction.
Together, both events will draw large crowds to Kane beginning tonight.

Elizabeth and Thomas L. Kane manuscript authors to hold signing

June 26, 2014

Michael Schultz and Elizabeth Haberberger will be at the Kane Depot this weekend to sign copies of their manuscript chronicling the love story of Elizabeth and Thomas L. Kane. The work, entitled “Elizabeth and Thomas L. Kane: Terraces of Kane Summit,” will be the basis of a play performed during the week of Kane’s Sesquicentennial.

Sister Frances Therese leaves St. Callistus post

Sister Frances Therese is stepping down as the longtime coordinator of religious education at St. Callistus Catholic Church in Kane.
"I've loved every minute of my job," Sister Therese said as she bids farewell to the Kane community. "I'm going to miss all the people-- especially the children."

Slow-moving storm brings heavy rain to Kane

A slow-moving storm dumped up to three inches of rain on the Kane area within a 33-hour period, the National Weather Service confirmed Wednesday.
The deluge caused widespread flooding along low-lying areas.
Many basements flooded and sections of some area highways and roads were temporarily closed due to high water.

Commissioners OK Chase Street property sale to KARE

SMETHPORT – The McKean County Commissioners approved the acceptance of an offer from the Kane Area Revitalization Enterprise to purchase the property at 316 Chase ST. for $250 from the McKean County repository. The property formerly was an addition to Papa Nick's restaurant and prior to that was the site of the Knights of Columbus.
