RIDGWAY â€“Â The Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous, and the chainsaw carving art form itself has evolved over the years.
Many of the carvers convening in downtown Ridgway were once humble beginners, creating mushrooms and bears from random logs. The mantra of late, however, seems to be "Go big or go home," as carvers continuously try to get better and better, and take on projects of seemingly epic proportions.
A prime example is Scott Dow, owner of Animalistic Chainsaw Carving Studio along U.S. Route 6 in Corry.
SMETHPORT â€“ Kenneth D. Baldwin of Bradford is the new McKean County planner.
Baldwin, 37, replaces Deborah Lunden, who has served as the county planner for over 26 years.
SMETHPORT â€“ Upgrades are planned in heating and air conditioning in sections of the McKean County Courthouse in Smethport.
A public meeting scheduled Thursday on the status of the Kane-based ambulance service has been canceled.
The meeting had been planned at the Kane Area Community Center.
SMETHPORT â€“ A Keating Township man has lost his bid for a property tax refund from McKean County.
The county Board of Commissioners voted 3-0 Tuesday to deny the refund request filed by Matthew J. Foster of 2232 Moody Hollow in Keating Township.
Commissioners Joe DeMott, Al Pingie and Cliff Lane all voted against the request.
Kane Community HospitalÂ now offers a higher level of diagnostic care within its cardiopulmonary department following the recent installation of four new pieces of equipment.Â Â Â Â Â
The new equipment will fortify the hospital's commitment to offering advanced technology and delivering high levels of care to its patients. Â
RIDGWAY â€“ On Monday morning, Liz and Rick Boni, founders of Ridgway's annual Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous, gave a presentation on the history of the Rendezvous, from its humble beginnings in 1999 to the internationally-known event it has become in its 15th year.

ST. MARYS â€“ Area emergency responders were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday for a structure fire at 572 S. St. Marys St. in St. Marys.
An outpouring of love, gratitude and respect for the Benedictine Sisters of Elk County was evident on Sunday during a special community celebration honoring those who have served at St. Joseph Monastery in St. Marys, the oldest Benedictine monastery in the U.S. which is slated to close after 162 years of service.
