SMETHPORT â€“ The county Department of Economic Development is planning to prepare guidelines for a proposed commercial project at Main and Center streets in Mt. Jewett.
Sherri Geary, director of the Department of Economic Development, said Monday that a developer has expressed an interest in the site. She said details for the proposal are confidential and are very preliminary at this time. Sources say the developer is looking at the site for a possible department store.
SMETHPORT â€“ Wetmore Township will be receiving $6,165 from McKean County for a road project completed over the summer.
McKean County Commissioners Joe DeMott, Al Pingie and Cliff Lane approved the payment Monday during a meeting at the county courthouse in Smethport.
The payment represents the townshipâ€™s share of county liquid fuel tax revenue.
The commissioners also made a payment of $5,542 to Ceres Township for a road project funded by the liquid fuel tax revenue.

The Kane Borough Council is pressing the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for a long-awaited permit to demolish a fire-damaged building on Chase Street.
In a letter to the DEP, Council President Howard Kane is calling for the state agency to issue the permit for the removal of the eyesore at 316 Chase St.
The submission of the letter to the DEP was announced Monday at a meeting of the borough council.
The Kane Area Revitalization Enterprise (KARE)-- part of the Kane Area Development Center-- reportedly has taken the necessary steps to raze the building.
The Kane Area School District will observe their annual Pink Week all this week. Many different activities and fundraisers are planned through Friday, Oct. 17.
The Kane volleyball team has been wearing pink socks all month to show support and raise awareness of breast cancer as are members of the KHS and KMS cross country teams.
HAZEL HURST â€“Hamlin Township is looking for a replacement for Terry Morgan, who has resigned as one of two employees with the township road crew.
Township Supervisors Jim Trussell, Joni Britton and Dave Okerlund accepted Morgan's resignation Monday at a board meeting in Hazel Hurst.
Rick Keesler, foreman, is the only other member of the township road crew. Morgan's resignation takes effect Oct. 25.
The supervisors plan to hire a full-time employee who would handle the Hazel Hurst sewage treatment plant and the Lantz Corners Sewer District as well as duties with the road crew.

When she was a youngster, Dawn Myers Moore of Mt. Jewett spent a lot of time in kitchen.
It was there in the homey kitchen that her mother, Kathy Myers and her late grandmother, Nancy Hipchen of Hazel Hurst introduced her to the joy of cooking. They taught her how to cook and eventually gave her the opportunity to prepare the main meal for the family.
â€śI loved cooking from that point on,â€ť Moore said.
Her love for cooking has led Moore to experiment with new recipes.
The Kane School Board wonâ€™t be endorsing a 2015-16 budget for seven months.
But it already looks like any property tax hike included in the spending plan for the next school year would be limited to less than $1.50 per month for the â€śaverageâ€ť residential property-owner.
School Business Manager Steve Perry, in a report to the school board Thursday, said the state â€śadjusted indexâ€ť for the Kane Area School District for 2015-16 is just 2.9 percent.
