Jamie Nowalk has received the "Rising Senior" award from the Kane High School Alumni Memorial Fund.
The $1,000 award is given annually to a college senior who previously received an Alumni Memorial Fund Scholarship at high school commencement.
Parents had the opportunity to meet with teachers and visit student classrooms Thursday at the open house program at the Kane Elementary School.
A grant program has enabled the Cummings Funeral Home of Kane to donate $500 to the Kane Area Community Center.
According to scanner reports from Thursday afternoon, local authorities have responded to an area referred to as Cemetery Hill in Brockway in response to multiple shots being fired.
According to WJAC-TV, "a state police spokesperson in Harrisburg confirmed one state trooper was injured in what was described as an 'ongoing situation' on Cemetery Hill Road."
Scanner reports also stated that area schools were on lockdown.

Members of the unbeaten Kane High School football team ride on hay wagons Wednesday for the Homecoming Parade on Fraley Street. A tractor from Detrick Farms of Wetmore Township pulls the wagons. It was a perfect autumn evening for the parade, bonfire and Pep Rally.
