SMETHPORT – The McKean County Board of Commissioners acted Tuesday to allocate $15,000 for an appraisal of the corridor for the defunct Knox and Kane Railroad.

McKean County welcomes new maintenance director

SMETHPORT – Ed Tronetti is the new maintenance director for McKean County.
Joe DeMott, chairman of the McKean County Board of Commissioners, announced the appointment Tuesday at a board meeting at the county courthouse in Smethport.

State leaders assess flood damage

RIDGWAY – Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley, Pa. Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) and state Representative Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) were in town Tuesday morning and into the early afternoon to assess the flood damage that ravaged Ridgway last week.

A crowd estimated at more than 300 attended the annual Memorial Day program Monday at the memorial point at Evergreen Park in Kane.

Departed veterans are honored at Ludlow service

LUDLOW – Six veterans who died in the past year were honored Monday at the Memorial Day service at the Gibbs Hill Cemetery near Ludlow.
The departed veterans include John Straneva, Nicholas Juban, Chester Swanson, Eugene Rzodkiewicz and Virgil Nelson.

Crowd enjoys weather for Mt. Jewett Memorial Day parade

MT. JEWETT – The street across from the Veteran’s gazebo in downtown Mt Jewett was crowded with people out to honor servicemen and women, both past and present, during Monday’s Veteran’s Day Parade. The crowds enjoyed sunny skies and warm temperatures as they watch the ten minute parade and the ceremony that followed.

1 reportedly dead in boating accident

RIDGWAY – Preliminary reports indicate at least one person is dead after an accident on the Clarion River in the Portland Mills area.
Emergency responders were called to the vicinity of 35080 Portland Mills Rd. in Ridgway Township for an initial report of five individuals in the water, including at least one with injuries. Elk Company 4 (Ridgway Fire Department) and Ridgway Ambulance were called at 3 p.m., and fire chief Scott Pontious later called for a swift water rescue team from Clearfield County to the scene. The coroner was requested to the scene.
