LUDLOW â€“ The new Veterans Memorial for Hamilton Township will be dedicated on Veteransâ€™ Dayâ€”Tuesday, Nov. 11.
State, county and local officials have been invited to participate in the dedication ceremony at 11 a.m.
The memorial is located near the rear gate at the Wetmore Road entrance to Wildcat Park in Ludlow.
The memorial features 652 memorial bricks, a large monument and flagpoles for the flying of the American, state and POW/MIA flags. Benches will be added.
ERIE â€“ Three defendants in a â€śwhistle-blowerâ€ť lawsuit filed seven years ago in U.S. District Court in Erie are seeking to have their legal fees paid by the unsuccessful plaintiffâ€”Dr. Maryann Anderson, superintendent of the Kane Area School District.
The defendantsâ€™ legal fees total nearly $3 million, according a report in the Saturday edition of the Erie Times-News.
The Kane School Board agreed Thursday to donate four used school district computers to the Kane Day School, a pre-school program.
Linda Hearst of the Kane Day School made the request, which was endorsed by school board members John Ball, Dick Coleman, Claire Ann Depto, Tom Kerek, Susan Grolemund and Linda A. Anderson.
Board members Keith Hastings and Krista Jamerson did not attend the meeting. There is one vacancy on the nine-member board. Anderson participated in the meeting via speaker phone.
SMETHPORT â€“ A Kane woman charged in a horrific 6-fatality traffic accident last year has accepted a plea agreement that suggests a minimum sentence of 11 1/2 years in prison.
Kathy Douglas, 37, entered the plea Thursday before Senior Judge William F. Morgan at the McKean County Courthouse.
The judge set sentencing for Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the courthouse. Morgan said he as the "sentencing judge" is not bound by the proposed terms in the agreement, which sets the maximum sentence of 22 1/2 years.Â
More candidates are sought to fill a vacancy on the Kane School Board.
The board voted 6-0 Thursday to formally accept the resignation of school board member Gary Ziegler.
Board President Claire Ann Depto joined with board members John Ball, Dick Coleman, Tom Kerek, Susan Grolemund and Linda A. Anderson in accepting the resignation.
The state may be finally ready to reimburse the Kane Area School District for local funds used to help finance a 2008 school construction project.
The school district dipped into its reserves to come up with $7,759,741 as a local share for the $22.3-million project. The project included the construction a new elementary school and the renovation of the Kane Middle School.

RUSSELL CITY â€“ Multiple injuries have been reported in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon at the east intersection of Routes 66 and 948 in Highland Township just east of Russell City.
Ridgway-based State Police investigated the accident, but had not filed a press release as of 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The Highland Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene at 1:40 p.m. with its rescue truck and eight firefighters. Highland Fire Police also responded, Fire Chief Bill Edinger said.
JAMES CITY â€“ The Highland Township Board of Supervisors agreed Wednesday to use a portion of the township's Act 13 money to make a loan payment for the James City sewer system.
"It's perfectly legal," Supervisor Jim Wolfe said in commenting on the loan payment. He joined with Supervisors Paul Burton Sr. and Joe Milstead in approving the payment of $13,661, which is due today.
The financially-strapped Highland Township Municipal Authority oversees the water and sewer systems in James City.
