Public invited to Sunday’s tribute to veterans

Kane’s First United Methodist Church will host their annual Tribute to Veterans on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m.
Sunday’s program is entitled, “Our Heroes and the Pride of America” and will have an added focus on veterans from the Korean Conflict. According to long-time event coordinator Colleen Lundeen, the tribute will honor all veterans, families of current servicemen and women and the families of those who have lost their lives while in the service of our country.

3 write-ins appear to win school board seats

Three write-in candidates apparently have won election to seats on the Kane School Board.
According to unofficial results from the election Tuesday, it appears Claire Ann Depto, Susan Grolemund and Linda A. Anderson all have won as write-in candidates. John Ball, who was endorsed by the three write-ins, also won a fourth seat on the board.

MT. JEWETT – Four incumbents on the Mt. Jewett Borough Council won re-election Tuesday, according to final, but unofficial results.

Schul, Drost, Gentilman win Kane council seats

Newcomer Gary Schul won election Tuesday to a seat on the Kane Borough Council along with two incumbents-- Dennis Drost and John Gentilman.
Schul, who won both the Republican and Democratic nominations in the primary, led voting Tuesday with 648 votes. Gentilman, a Democrat, was next with 484. Drost, also a Democrat, received 447.

Wolfe, Milstead win Highland seats

No one injured as fire destroys Rt. 6 house

LANTZ CORNERS – A fast-moving fire early Monday morning destroyed the Jason Rankin residence at 9261 Route 6 in Hamlin Township.
No injuries were reported, according to Dan "Beans" Gustafson, chief of the Mt. Jewett Volunteer Fire Department.

Mt. Jewett council plans workshop on budget

MT. JEWETT – The proposed 2014 budget for Mt. Jewett is still a work in progress. Rather than act Monday to adopt a tentative spending plan for next year, the Mt. Jewett Borough Council scheduled a "work session" to discuss the budget.

Kane police chief expected to waive hearing

BRADFORD – Suspended Kane Police Chief Brian Hillard is expected to waive his preliminary hearing in a criminal case filed by the state Attorney General's office.
Hillard is accused of falsifying firearms training records for three Kane police officers.

Red Kettle Campaign gears up in Kane

The Salvation Army’s world famous Red Kettles have been an American tradition since 1891. These familiar Red Kettles will be hitting streets and shopping areas soon, and The Salvation Army is seeking volunteer bell ringers to raise much-needed funds to help their neighbors in need. Student and community groups are encouraged to volunteer their time. Please contact your local churches to sign up and volunteer to ring the bells.
