MT. JEWETT â The street across from the Veteranâs gazebo in downtown Mt Jewett was crowded with people out to honor servicemen and women, both past and present, during Mondayâs Veteranâs Day Parade. The crowds enjoyed sunny skies and warm temperatures as they watch the ten minute parade and the ceremony that followed.
RIDGWAY â Preliminary reports indicate at least one person is dead after an accident on the Clarion River in the Portland Mills area.
Emergency responders were called to the vicinity of 35080 Portland Mills Rd. in Ridgway Township for an initial report of five individuals in the water, including at least one with injuries. Elk Company 4 (Ridgway Fire Department) and Ridgway Ambulance were called at 3 p.m., and fire chief Scott Pontious later called for a swift water rescue team from Clearfield County to the scene. The coroner was requested to the scene.
Memorial Day parades and programs are slated Monday in the Kane area.
Parades will be held in Kane and Mt. Jewett along with Memorial Day programs. A Memorial Day service will be held in Ludlow.
BRADFORD - With Pennsylvaniaâs primary election in the rear view mirror, Governor Tom Corbett made a campaign stop at the Bradford Senior Center on Friday morning. Corbett/Cawley campaign signs flanked Campus Drive as approximately 100 people gathered in the senior center to listen to Corbett discuss state matters and take a few questions.
RIDGWAY â Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency [PEMA] officials continued to work hand-in-hand with area residents and emergency officials Friday to assess the damage from Wednesday's flooding that ravaged Elk County, particularly Ridgway where floodwaters reached six feet in some areas.
RIDGWAY â Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency [PEMA] officials were in the area Thursday to assess the damage from Wednesday's flooding that ravaged Elk County, particularly Ridgway where standing water in some areas reached well over four feet.
Detailed numbers regarding home and business damage, and monetary damages were not readily available Thursday evening as PEMA teams were still analyzing data at the county's 911 Center.
Mike McAllister, director of Elk County's Office of Emergency Services, said teams were still working Thursday evening to assess the damage.
Torrential downpours overnight throughout Elk County closed or washed out several roadways, and damaged several vehicles and structures throughout Wednesday.
"This was a quick storm with a lot of water in a short period of time," said Mike McAllister, Elk County Emergency Services director. "We had a number of incidents countywide, from Highland Township to Jay Township, and in between, but Ridgway Borough really took the brunt of it."

A total of 147 Kane sewer customers face water shut-offs Thursday due to their longtime delinquent bills.
Pennsylvania Municipal Service (PAMS), which now collects Kane sewer bills, has issued the 147 water shut-off notices.
